British Columbia sketchbook

File consists of one sketchbook containing photographs, drawings, and watercolour paintings of British Columbia scenery and animals.

Some of the photographs in the album titled British Columbia have been attributed to British photographer Charles MacMunn. Charles MacMunn was a professional photographer who worked out of Victoria, B.C. between ca.1883 and ca.1900.

8 photographs stored loose at the back of the album have been placed in a separate file folder.

Journey to Yukon 1898

File consists of one sketchbook, created as part of Fripp's work as "special artist correspondent" to the Daily Graphic. The images depict a number of people travelling together with animals and provisions. Many of the images show daily routines such as washing, cooking, setting up camp, and travelling. Other images are of animals, both wild and those brought with the travelling party. The images are pencil sketches in varying stages of completion. The file consists of a sketchbook created by Edward Mallandaine. Originally catalogued as E/C/M29.1 and later transferred to visual records and given item level catalogue numbers PDP3987-3406.

The series consists of correspondence and reports created by the Dept. of Mines between 1909 and 1932 re Lightning Creek Gold Gravels and Drainage Company Ltd. and the activities of Charles Henry Unverzagt.

Provincial poster collection

Series consists of posters created by various B.C. government ministries. Topics and events include, but are not limited to, centennial and bicentennial celebrations, travel within the province, Expo 86, venereal disease prevention, drinking-driving counterattacks, trades' skill profiles, birds, animals, and environmental protection.

Lewis Lewis

Item consists of one portrait photograph of Lewis Lewis. The photograph appears to be the source material for the Yokohama-e silk portrait of Lewis Lewis (PDP10108).

Haida Mary or Queen Johnny

The item is a black and white photograph of a Haida woman called Queen Johnny. It was taken by Richard Maynard, probably in 1884. There are other photos of the same woman with reference numbers J-04143 and J-04144.

British Columbia Land Surveyors, The Great War, 1914-1918

The item is an arrangement of photographic portraits of land surveyors from British Columbia who fought in World War One. The photographs are arranged with Art Nouveau decorations, a painting at the centre depicting a war cemetery and spirits of fallen soldiers, a poem entitled, "We Shall Not Sleep", a cardboard medal of BC's Coat of Arms, and lists of soldiers.

Vancouver Panorama

The item is a large panoramic view of Vancouver streets taken at elevation. There is a photographer's stamp in the lower left corner for Wm. J. Carpenter.

Curling on the St. Lawrence

The item is a composite photograph of 122 politicians and prominent businessmen curling on the frozen St. Lawrence River with hand painted details of the Montreal cityscape in the background and snow around the players. The photographers were taken and arranged in this composition by William Notman and then enhanced by Henry Sandham. It was originally created as a submission to Paris World's Fair.
