The file contains loose ledge pages containing a brief daily journal. Entries appear to be in two different hands and on the fourth page, the page begins with the header "Stuarts Lake Journal" and all entries may be from Stuart Lake post. The entries document events like weather and daily activities. Individuals mentioned include Michel Lacroix, Tomma, and Michel Deschamp. The two last pages contain lists of places (Thomasson River, New Caledonia British Columbia, Stuarts Lake) and the name Charles G. Ogden.

The series contains Raley's typescript copies of First Nations legends and stories, recorded between 1934 and the 1940s.

Correspondence outward : Sir Joseph Banks [transcripts]

File consists of collected correspondence written by Archibald Menzies and addressed to Sir Joseph Banks, dated between 1784 and 1796. Additionally there are letters and notes written by Menzies and addressed to W.J. Hooker and John Smith.

Journal of Vancouver's voyage

The file consists of 2 photostat copies of 9 pages of Menzies' journal of Vancouver's voyage, 1790-1794. The pages cover the date range between April 1792 to August 1792 and are the portions that deal with Vancouver Island. C.F. Newcombe used roughly the same portion for his publication, "Menzies' Journal of Vancouver's Voyage."

The London Gazette Extraordinary

The item consists of one sheet marked "Copy - The London Gazette Extraordinary." The sheet was published at Whitehall on August 5, 1790. The sheet includes a translation of a declaration by the Comte de Florida Blanca regarding the capture of certain vessels belonging to his subjects in the Port of Nootka.

Correspondence outward : letter to his family

The file consists of a letter written to his brother, James, and his mother, written on the eve before his departure for the Northwest Coast. The letter is written from H.M.S. Discovery, at Falmouth, on March 31, 1791.
