The file contains loose ledge pages containing a brief daily journal. Entries appear to be in two different hands and on the fourth page, the page begins with the header "Stuarts Lake Journal" and all entries may be from Stuart Lake post. The entries document events like weather and daily activities. Individuals mentioned include Michel Lacroix, Tomma, and Michel Deschamp. The two last pages contain lists of places (Thomasson River, New Caledonia British Columbia, Stuarts Lake) and the name Charles G. Ogden.

Correspondence outward : letter to his family

The file consists of two letters written to his brother, James, and his mother, written on the eve before his departure for the Northwest Coast. The letter is written from H.M.S. Discovery, at Falmouth, on March 31, 1791.

Thomas New correspondence

The file consists of two letters written by Thomas New, on board the ship Daedalus, to his sister, Rebecca Coxen in Kent. The first letter is dated September 16, 1792, on board the Daedalus at Friendly Cove, Nootka Sound. The second letter is dated December 16, 1793, on board the Daedalus at sea. The Daedalus formed part of the Vancouver Expedition.

The first letter, from Nootka Sound, recounts a story of a Spanish boy found murdered on shore, surveying land, and encounters with Indigenous people. The second letter is incomplete, but appears to discuss sailing to Australia, including Sydney, Port Jacks, Lord Howe Island. The letter discusses taking convicts onboard from Australia as well as an Aboriginal man.

Journal of Vancouver's voyage

The file consists of 2 photostat copies of 9 pages of Menzies' journal of Vancouver's voyage, 1790-1794. The pages cover the date range between April 1792 to August 1792 and are the portions that deal with Vancouver Island. C.F. Newcombe used roughly the same portion for his publication, "Menzies' Journal of Vancouver's Voyage."

Correspondence outward and accounts

The series consists of four copybook letters written by Simon Fraser in 1806 and 1807 while he worked for the North West Company. The letters are written in the same incomplete volume containing various Fort Liard (NWT) accounts created between 1803 and 1805.

The four letters were written by Fraser to Trout Lake (Fort McLeod) as follows:
December 21, 1806 from Fraser at Makesleh to James McDougall.
January 31, 1807 from Fraser at Natleh to James McDougall.
February 1, 1807 from Fraser at Natleh to John Stuart.
February 10 or 15, 1807 from Fraser at Natleh to James McDougall.

Papers relating to Paul Gerber contract

The file consists of one original document relating to the contract of Paul Gerber. The document was written in Montreal and is in French. The file also contains a handwritten translation; the year of creation of this translation is unknown. Gerber was engaged by Lord Selkirk to undertake a voyage from Red River.

Paul Gerber's connection to Charles Ross is not clear.

Letter from Isaac Ogden

The file consists of one letter written by Isaac Ogden to his son Peter Skene Ogden. The letter was addressed to Ogden care of the "London Coffee House" and appears to have been written shortly before Peter Ogden returned to the employment of the Hudson's Bay Company in North America.

Journal of Clallum [Clallam] expedition from Fort Vancouver

The file consists of Ermatinger's 1828 journal detailing the so-called Clallam expedition from Fort Vancouver under the command of Alexander McLeod, chief trader at the fort. The punitive expedition, which set out from Fort Vancouver in June 1828, sought revenge for the deaths of Alexander McKenzie and four of his men.
