The series consists of photocopies of three letters and a written "sketch" sent to friends and a brother in England. Hargreaves arrived in Victoria from England on July 2, 1862. The letter of Sept. 1, 1862 describes his first attempt to reach the Cariboo, from which he turned back, his work as a survey assistant in the Cowichan district, and his reaction to the articles written by Donald Fraser, the London TIMES correspondent. The second letter, Jan. 9, 1865, describes a trip to Cariboo in 1863 and the third item is a "sketch of a trip I made in the winter of 1875" describing a CPR exploratory survey in the Chilcotin. The final item, a letter of Feb 6, 1878, continues the account of his survey work in 1875, describing work in the Salmon (Kimsquit) River Valley at the head of Dean Channel, and in the Kemano River.

SUMMARY: A program on the Cariboo Road, in modern times and in the 19th century, with stories of travel by car and stagecoach from the Fraser Canyon to the Cariboo. The voices heard are: Mrs. Nellie Baker, Mrs. R.T.Crosby, Miss Leah Shaw, Vince Gresty, Gus Milliken, Roddy Moffat, and Bryson Patenaude.

The file consists of a signed agreement from 1928 between the Province represented by the Minister of Public Works and the Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CPR). The agreement sets out compensation to be paid by the CPR for each level crossing on the Old Cariboo Road between Haig and Spences Bridge that would be eliminated by the construction of the new provincial highway.

The agreement is accompanied by a photocopied letter from 1963 from the Office of the Attorney-General to the Chief Engineer of the Dept. of Highways instructing them to keep the agreement in their active files.

The series consists of records created by the Lillooet Government Agent between 1859 and 1950. It includes correspondence inward and outward, mining, water and financial records. It also includes counterfoil books of Mineral Act (Form B) record of a mineral claim, placer mining leases-indentures correspondence and Cariboo Wagon Road toll records. Some records also relate to the nearby Clinton Government Agency.

Series consists of articles, typescript drafts, essays, biographies, notes, clippings, etc. relating to Alaska, the history of British Columbia, historic sites in British Columbia, Indigenous people of British Columbia, the pelagic sealing industry, etc. The series also includes invitations to events and 124 black and white photographs, mostly of Smith's time in Japan and China.

Footage. A travel film presenting outdoor attractions and community life along the highways linking the Fraser Canyon to Clinton and Lillooet. Featured are swimming, fishing, hiking, sightseeing, motoring through the Fraser Canyon and accommodations such as hotels, resorts and auto courts. Community subjects include children clowning and swimming, ranching, railway trains, a covered wagon, native basketry for sale, building and students at St. George's Indian Residential School (Lytton), abandoned roadhouses, and the towns of Lytton, Spences Bridge, Ashcroft, Clinton and Lillooet. In the last sequence on the reel, townsfolk in Lillooet extract a vintage automobile from an old garage, push it onto the town’s main street, and start it up.

Amateur film. In summer 1928, two carloads of travellers drive from Kamloops to Hazelton and return, filming highlights of their trip. These include the Cariboo Road, Barkerville, Bear Lake, Summit Lake, Stuart Lake, Fort St. James, Bulkley River, Telkwa River, and Skeena River. Footage from this trip is continued on film F1984:01/05.

This series consists of various financial records created by the Lytton Government Agent and related government employees from 1858-1900. The records include account books, cash books, records of licences, lists of lots, receipts, a list of prisoners and charge book for the Lytton gaol, road tolls collected at Lytton, a store ledger, waste books and collectorate books. Collectorate books record the collection of various fees by the government agent. Such as trade licences, liquor licences, marriage licences, pre-emption records, water records, mining records, fines, deposits and rent. There are also handwritten notes and invoices created by the Government Agent for the Hope-Yale-Lytton District.

This series consists of various records related to the collection of road tolls along the Cariboo Wagon Road from 1862-1883. The collection of tolls for the road from Lytton or Lillooet to Alexandria began in 1862 pursuant to BC Proclamations 3 and 4, 1862. These tolls were later revised by legislation in 1876 and 1884.

Locations tolls were collected include Yale, Lillooet, Alexandria, Lytton and Clinton. The position of toll collector was often done by government officials holding other positions, including government agents, police constables, clerks and revenue officers. Some volumes include other financial information from these government officials, such as expenses and salaries from the government officials. Volumes may record freight or other items being transported up the road.
