Genealogical account of the Burkitt family and reminiscences of author's boyhood in London, England; account of author's apprenticeship at Salvation Army's Hadleigh training farm and of his emigration to Vancouver Island in 1911. Reminiscences of his career as farmer, dairyman, and horticulturist at Westholme (1911-1914), Saltspring Island (1919-1949), and Sooke (1950s). MS includes account of Burkitt's tenure as director of Saltspring and Gulf Islands Agricultural Association (1921-ca. 1938) and work with Canadian Corps of Commissionaires in Victoria (ca. 1960-1977). Also, reminiscences of author's military service (1914-1918) first as member of 67th Battalion (Western Scots) and later as pilot in the Royal Flying Corps. Xerox photos of author and family also included.
"Beginners Please: My Life in Amateur Theatre". Reminiscences of author's boyhood in Bolton, Lancaster, and early interest in amateur theatre, 1914-1948; account of immigration to New Brunswick and theatrical work in Fredericton, 1949-1954; recollections of his migration to Victoria, British Columbia and association with Victoria Theatre Guild and other local dramatic societies, 1955-1979. MS. includes photocopies of theatre programmes and newspaper cuttings.

The file contains a photocopy of a letter from Mary Cridge to her sister-in-law, Elizabeth, written from the Marquis of Bute ca. 1855 (including a transcript copy); a photocopy of a letter from Harold W.H. Helby to Emily Carr, June 1944, in which he describes being in Victoria as a midshipman in 1882 and visiting the Cridge family and a photocopy of an Archives pioneer form for Bishop Cridge filled out by Maude Cridge.

Born in India, William Tayler was a retired army officer who came to Victoria early in the 20th century and became active in local theatrical productions. This item, a heavily annotated script of the traditional play "Blue Beard", is accompanied by a note written by Bullock-Webster, 30 Sept. 1946, which reads: "[this play is] an interesting example of the early work of Major Tayler...".

The file consists of a typescript copy of the reminiscences of Gerald Ross Hunter titled "Are we at the crossroads?" Mr. Hunter was born in England, emigrated to Wynyard, Saskatchewan, moved to British Columbia in 1937 where he and his wife operated a motel on Kingsway in Vancouver, and then lived in the Fraser Valley and in Victoria.
Account book for menagerie, museum and saloon operating in Victoria, 1876-1882. Household expenses for the family operating the establishment are also included. The museum and menagerie may have been the one opened by Mr. Bristol on Government Street in 1872. The collection includes feather and preserved snakeskin samples. The account book itself was a former ship's logbook and has records from the Trafalgar, 1857-1859 and the Anglesey, 1860-1861.

The file consists of photocopies of Croft family information includes two letters to Edmund Croft from his brother, Henry Croft (Victoria, B.C.) 1916 and 1917, and two letters from Henry's widow, Mary Jean (Dunsmuir) Croft, 1917 as well as information on the Croft family compiled by the donor.
Two manuscript histories of Canada produced for the Dominion History Competition, which was possibly held for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The histories are by "Canadienne" and "Fleur de lis, Beaver".
The file consists of three letters relating to municipal elections in the City of Victoria, written by City Clerk William Leigh. The first, 25 January 1872, is to the Registrar of the Supreme Court (Richard Woods) to notify him of the election of Richard Lewis as mayor; the second, 29 January 1872 (also to Woods) notifies him of the election of James D. Robinson as councilor for James Bay Ward; and the third, 29 January 1872, is to the Chief Justice regarding oaths of office for Lewis and Robinson.
The file consists of drivers licenses issued to Walter Luney, Florence Augusta Luney and George Albert Hood at Victoria on 16 February 1925; these were the first drivers' licenses issued in British Columbia. Also included in this files are a copy of permit number 1, issued under the Motor Vehicle Speed Regulation Act on 29 February 1904, and a notification to attend a driver's examination (no date).
