[The children's garden library -- May 24, 1946 pageant]

Amateur film. Shows Lady Alexander (wife of Lord Alexander of Tunis, the Governor-General of Canada) visiting the Children's Garden Library; children from the program participating in a May 24 celebrations (parade and dances) at Beacon Hill Park; and the children in a "Beauty Booster Parade", encouraging people to keep Victoria's streets clean.

Amateur film. Part 1 shows a day's activities at the Children's Garden Library, including games, calisthenics, playground equipment, dancing, and reading and storytelling at the "Book House". Part 2 shows the children participating in May 24 celebrations at Beacon Hill Park, which includes a May Queen pageant, maypole dancing, and activities honouring the "Queen of Health", the "Queen of Music", the "Queen of Drama", the "Queen of Race Friendship" and the "Queen of Art". A mothers' study group, and the toymakers' group, are also shown.

Amateur film. Apple blossoms (at 10 Bushby Street, home of George F. Lowe). May 8, 1945: V-E Day victory parade in downtown Victoria, with huge crowd surging onto Douglas Street at the parade's end. Victoria's Chinese, Russian and Ukrainian communities are represented in the parade. The final shot shows the V-E Day crowd gathering at Beacon Hill for an outdoor service of thanksgiving.

[Beacon Hill Park]

News item. A spokesman says that little planning or thought has been given to Beacon Hill Park development over the past 20 years. Group wants to keep the park in a more natural state; less emphasis on cars, parking and concrete additions, and more on people and animals in a less spoiled environment.

In the first section, a crowd watches from Beacon Hill Park as naval vessels and coastal patrol aircraft (including an Argus) maneuver nearby, possibly in some kind of demonstration. The second section shows the supply ship H.M.C.S. "Provider" and the aircraft carrier H.M.C.S. "Bonaventure" underway at sea. "Provider" refuels another naval vessel while they cruise side by side.

The item is a travelogue film. 'Sunshine and flowers - thus it is that one thinks of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. Its enterprising business district is only overshadowed by its beautiful gardens. Such places of interest as Beacon Hill Park, the Mayor's Garden, the Dominion observatory (which houses the second largest telescope in the world) and the Butchart Gardens, are famed across the continent.' Scenes include a map of Victoria and Vancouver with a line shoring the ferry route, and an aerial view of Victoria, Inner Harbour and CPR ferry entering. Parliament Buildings.
