Ina D.D. Uhtfhoff fonds

Fonds consists of the personal and professional records of Ina D. D. Uhthoff and three of her paintings. The records primarily document Uhthoff's relationships with various art galleries, either regarding selling or exhibiting her works. Some of these records were created by other individuals connected to Ina Uhthoff (principally John Uhthoff, son of Ina Uhthoff) and relate to the selling or disposition of her artwork.

Emily Harley Toldervy Lee

The item is a miniature portrait of a young woman wearing a black and white dress, and with a large hat. Written at the top on the back of the portrait is "Emily Harley Toldervy Le[e], London, Eng[land]. Further down is a label with the name spelt slightly differently. Also on the label is a note about hanging the portrait out of the sun to avoid damage. Underneath this is a note in different handwriting possibly saying, "For Ruth Davidson Lee [illegible]".

Lilies

The item is a handmade gift card. There is a coloured pencil drawing of lilies framed inside a pre-made cardboard frame and envelope. The item is attributed to Sophia Pemberton, and was created in 1953.

Lily with inscription

The item is a coloured pencil drawing of a white lily with an inscription that reads," And trailing clouds of glory do they come from which is their home". The back of the frame reads, "To Dear Ada, March 1954". The artwork is attributed to Sophia Pemberton, and was created in 1954.

Sketch of a dinosaur fossil

The item is a watercolour sketch of a dinosaur fossil on a plinth. A person in a hat and a stone monument are sketched in the background. The item is attributed to Joseph Despard Pemberton, and his daughter Sophia, and was drawn in October 1892, likely when she was an art student in London. The fossil is possibly based on the Bernissart Iguanodon that was on display in Brussels at that time, but this is only speculation.

Varied Thrush? (Painted Robin)

The item is a painting of a grey bird sitting amongst some vegetation. The painting was done by Hilda Vincent Foster, possibly in the 1930s The painting has been incorrectly titled as Varied Thrush? (Painted Robin), but the bird has been correctly identified as a Red-Breasted Nuthatch by the Natural History curators at the Royal BC Museum.

Grosbeak(?)

The item is a painting of a bird sitting amongst some branches. The painting was done by Hilda Vincent Foster, possibly in the 1930s. The painting has been incorrectly titled as a Grosbeak by Winifred Williams. Also on the back of the painting is a note written on December 7, 1993 stating that Florence Dickson said this was a Sparrow Hawk or Kestrel. It has been correctly identified as an American Kestrel by Natural History curators at the Royal BC Museum.

Flicker(?)

The item is a painting of a grey bird with its wings outstretched while sitting amongst some flowers. The painting was done by Hilda Vincent Foster. On the back of the painting is written Flicker(?), but the bird has been correctly identified by Natural History curators at the Royal BC Museum as a Northern Flicker.

The Old Stone Church

The item is a painting of a building by Hilda Vincent Foster. The painting depicts the old stone church on Comiaken Hill, near Duncan, Vancouver Island. According to the label on the back of the painting, the church was constructed between 1870 and 1872 by Rev. Peter Rondeault, and became disused in 1880. The painting was done in 1966.

The item is a painting showing some trees. In the back is the sea and some mountains. In the foreground of the painting is a stone wall. The location of the painting is that of Mill Bay, Vancouver Island. The artwork was painted by Hilda Vincent Foster some time in the 1940s. The writing on the back of the painting is not that of the artist.
