1997 North American Indigenous Games fonds

The fonds consists of the records generated by the 1997 North American Indigenous Games in the course of managing the sport and cultural events that took place in Victoria, BC in August 1997. The fonds includes two series: the management files of Alex Nelson, Executive Director and Rick Brant, General Manager and marketing files. The management files are arranged by subject and include correspondence with the Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Association of BC (ASRA) and other records relating to the management, administration and financial aspects of the games. The management files also include policy and procedure files, briefing materials, reports and minutes from meetings. The marketing files are arranged alphabetically by subject and consist of general files regarding all aspects of marketing the sport and culture events of the games. The marketing files also include a poster, examples of bronze, silver and gold medals and three videocassettes.

Roots

The item consists of an oil on canvas painting by Emily Carr depicting an uprooted tree and a forest. It is set within a wooden frame designed by Lawren Harris affixed by the executor's of Carr's estate.

John Whitfield

The item is a photograph of a man sitting in a high-backed chair and holding a book. The man is identified as John Whitfield. On the front of the photograph are two labels identifying the person in the portrait, as well as the number '82' in the lower left corner.

Personal and business papers

The series chronicles the whole of Cotton's life and reflects his many interests and activities. Records include: diaries, daybooks, school report cards, undergraduate papers, and personal correspondence inward plus letters written by Cotton while serving with Canadian Army overseas, 1940-1945, financial records, business correspondence, and project files relating to Cotton's work as architect and interior designer, along with notes, reports letters, and sketches relating to heritage buildings in British Columbia (primarily in Victoria).

Curling on the St. Lawrence

The item is a composite photograph of 122 politicians and prominent businessmen curling on the frozen St. Lawrence River with hand painted details of the Montreal cityscape in the background and snow around the players. The photographers were taken and arranged in this composition by William Notman and then enhanced by Henry Sandham. It was originally created as a submission to Paris World's Fair.
