Canadian Plywood Association fonds

The fonds consists of prints and/or printing elements of motion picture films that were distributed by the Canadian Plywood Association (CPA) or its predecessors, the Council of Forest Industries of British Columbia (COFI) and the Plywood Manufacturers Association of British Columbia (PMA). Most of the films were produced between 1955 and 1989 for the COFI or the PMA by three BC companies: Canawest Film Productions, Kelly Duncan Productions, or Lew Parry Film Productions. The films deal with with the harvesting of trees, the manufacture of wood and wood products (including plywood, shakes, shingles, etc.), and the use of these products in the construction industry.

Come winter, come harvest

Promotional film. "This film looks at harvesting, forest husbandry, sawmilling and end uses of Spruce-Pine-Fir from British Columbia's northern interior, a unique area with a large and technologically sophisticated forest industry. Pacific coast hemlock : the natural choice

Educational film. "A good 'short course' in the recovery of clear wood fibre from different grades of Pacific Coast Hemlock, an old-growth, fine grained timber from British Columbia's coastal forests. Sequences in millwork plants show the manufacture of ladders, doors, windows, spindles, mouldings, panelling, and other items. The plywood story

Industrial film. The production, special qualities and varied uses of plywood -- in construction, in industry and on the farm. The film's whimsical commentary is provided by a movie cameraman who is seen shooting footage on the subject for a documentary. Filmed in B.C., with scenes in Saskatchewan, Winnipeg and elsewhere in Canada.
