The fonds consists of 85 cans containing ca. 320 (approximately 36,000 feet) film elements created by Bob Elliott's company Telefilm Services Limited between 1949 and 1973. The film elements are a combination of original and edited film footage including prints, positive pictures, negative pictures, A&B rolls, outs and optical tracks. The majority of the elements have not been copied onto a viewable format and are inaccessible.

A wide variety of local, industrial and promotional subjects are included, as are television commercials and news clips.
Highlights include: the demolition of the second Hotel Vancouver, 1949; British Empire Games, 1954 (including the Bannister-Landy "Miracle Mile" and the defeat of marathon runner James Peters); Princess Margaret in Vancouver, 1958; Ripple Rock explosion, 1958; CP Air's first trans-Canada jetliner flight, 1959; W.A.C. Bennett's 1960 and 1963 election campaign tours; B.C. W.A.C. Bennett election tour, 1963

The item consists of two reels (one main reel and one duplicate reel) of unedited negative footage of Premier W.A.C. Bennett on an election tour of B.C. during the provincial election campaign, September 1963. Bennett is shown making speeches, riding PGE trains, shaking hands and generally "campaigning" in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Dawson Creek, Peace River dam site, Fort St. John, Prince George and Nanaimo. Highlights include Bennett setting off a large explosion at the dam site and touring the mills and roads.

The item consists of unedited footage created ca. 1965. There are shots of the Vancouver City Police Marine Squad and their boat in and about Vancouver Harbour. Shots include Lions Gate Bridge, Brockton Point Light, other boats and ships.

Hotel Vancouver demolition, 1949

The item is film footage showing various stages in the demolition of the old Hotel Vancouver, 1949. It could be a fully produced film missing its title frames, as it concludes with a caption, "The end."

Air Canada inaugural flight to London

The item consists of two reels of negative footage. There is one brief shot of an Air Canada aircraft at the terminal, presumably in London. Tourists visit common London sights: the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, etc., and lay a wreath at Winston Churchill's grave.

British Empire & Commonwealth Games : television coverage of August 5, 1954, part 1

The item consists of a kinescope of the August 5, 1954 CBC coverage of the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, sponsored by Northern Electric. Events reported on include: rowing finals from the Vedder Canal (Prince Phillip in attendance, Canada wins gold medal in the eights); boxing from the Forum; wrestling from Kerrisdale Arena; fencing from Lord Byng High School gymnasium; lawn bowls from New Westminster; track and field from Empire Stadium; and swimming from Empire Pool. Includes ad inserts for Northern Electric flash bulbs and kitchen appliances.

The Beatles in Vancouver, 1964 and Vancouver City Police horse training

The item consists of two reels of unedited footage. The first is the Beatles in Vancouver, August 22, 1964 showing crowd shots, a sign "Welcome Beatles"; exterior crowds at Hotel Georgia; police clearing crowd; crowd from above; Birk's clock; Empire Stadium set up for concert; the Beatles getting out of a car; another group (Sounds Incorporated?) in concert; the Beatles in concert; several shots of crowd in stadium and leaving after concert. The second reel shows the methods used to train police and horses by Vancouver City Police.

Princeton Mine

The item consists of a reel of edited negative footage probably created in the 1960s. It depicts Coalmont (unincorporated) and a mine site with men examining ore and taking photographs. It also contains a reel of outs.

Miracle Mile (Bannister-Landy) & Marathon (Peters), Vancouver, 1954

The item is a film consisting of unedited footage which records the "Miracle Mile" race of Roger Bannister, John Landy and Richard Ferguson, as well as the finish of James Peters, marathon runner, at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver. Peters was disqualified before he crossed the marathon finish line. James McGee of Scotland was declared the winner instead. The critical moment where the narrator announces Peters has crossed the finish line is obscured on the film by a head in front of the camera. Peters was, however, 200 yards short of the real finish line and because he was touched by people (he kept collapsing as he struggled to finish the race), he was disqualified.

Bennett 1966 election campaign; Bennett bonds

The items consists of film footage and outs from 1966. It shows Premier W.A.C. Bennett campaigning in August 1966 in Cranbrook, Fernie, Campbell River, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and the "instant town" of Mackenzie. There is also footage of Premier Bennett being interviewed about the bond issue to finance the Pacific Great Eastern Railway in 1966.

Salute to Tasu

The item consists of a silent, 16 mm A-roll colour picture of an industrial film made in 1967. It depicts mining activity at the Wesfrob Mine and domestic life in the community of Tasu, Queen Charlotte Islands, BC. Wesfrob, owned by Falconbridge Nickel Mines, acquired the property in 1956, and in 1964 began construction of the mine, mill, townsite and shipping facilities. The mine produces black magnetite iron ore. In addition, the item includes two sound tracks.

The film consists of miscellaneous footage including trick skiing; caterpillars; piglet & dog; monkey & chipmunks; British Empire Games boxing match and ice dancers.

Progress report of the Highland Valley

The item consists of an industrial film made in 1968. It depicts mining activity in BC's Highland Valley by the Alwin Mining Company. Includes every step, from the planning and construction phase to domestic life of the miners. The item also includes a separate magnetic sound track and titles.

Crown Zellerbach : new paper source; MacMillan Bloedel Osaka trees

The item consists of two industrial films:

  1. Crown Zellerbach: new paper source depicts logging, milling and pulp-paper processing by Crown Zellerbach Canada Ltd., 1964.
  2. MacMillan Bloedel Osaka trees depicts the logging and transport of giant trees from a MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. camp to a staging pond in 1968. The trees are to be shipped to Osaka, Japan, to be used in the construction of the BC Pavilion at Expo 1970.

Houston : new pulp mill; Bulkley Valley

The item consists of two cores of footage created between 1964 and 1966

  1. New pulp mill depicts countryside and town of Houston, BC.
  2. Bulkley Valley depicts surveying, bush/tree clearing by bulldozer, slash-burning, the Pine Crest Resort on Johnson Lake, and an outdoor community meal in the Bulkley Valley.

Gibraltar Mines : mine operations & official opening

The item is an industrial film of Gibraltar Mines activities made 1971-1972. It shows various ground and aerial shots of a mine operation. tour groups and the interior of processing plant. Pan of Cariboo-Chilcotin-like countryside. explosion, zoom-in, shovel and truck loading earth, loading ore into railway or track hoppers with front-scoop vehicle, light airplane takes off and flies around mine area. Includes footage of the official opening of Gibraltar Mines Ltd. (N.P.L.) on June 13, 1972, near Williams Lake, BC.

Endako Mines : mine operations

The item consists of an industrial film, probably made in the 1970s. It shows mining operations at Endako Mines including shots of blasting, drilling, loading ore, refining, chemical work and shipping out.

Columbia Cellulose Ltd. : new Prince Rupert pulp mill

The item consists of an industrial film made in 1964 about a new kraft pulp mill being built in Prince Rupert by Columbia Cellulose. It shows Paul M. Marshall, president of Columbia Cellulose Company and Mr. Mulford of Hooker Chemicals Ltd. signing papers, looking at model and a close-up of model.

Pacific Centre opening, Vancouver

The item consists of unedited film footage from 1971 showing the opening of Pacific Centre in Vancouver. There are various shots of Pacific Centre, including Toronto Dominion Bank facility, office tower from various angles, interior of building, shopping mall, parade with bagpipe band, businessmen in suits, speakers platform (Premier W.A.C. Bennett present), guests milling around,; receiving line, roast beef carving, people touring offices, shots of office furniture and exterior of the office tower.

Salute to Tasu

The item consists of a colour picture of an industrial film made in 1967. It depicts mining activity at the Wesfrob Mine and domestic life in the community of Tasu, Queen Charlotte Islands, BC. The film shows opening ceremonies at Tasu including H.J. Fraser, the president of Falconbridge welcoming guests.
