This series contains files from the Public Information and Education Division. The records consist of correspondence of the Minister of Lands, Forests and Water Resources on controversial matters including: multiple use in the Nitinat Triangle (1972) and Fry Creek (1972-1973) areas, and the Eden Fire (1973-1975). This series also contains the report of the Committee for Ranger District Organization (1976) which was appointed as a result of the Eden Fire controversy.

Divisional operational records

This series contains the Forest Service's public information records. It includes divisional operational records containing materials on speeches, signs, educational materials, publicity, radio broadcasts, matters relating to the internal operation of the Division, and fire safety and prevention posters. These records were maintained separately from the general Departmental "O Series", and those files which had previously been assigned "O" Numbers" were withdrawn from the file vault series and retained by the Division. There are also ledgers for divisional accounts: vote 232 (1961-1962) and vote 206 (1965-1966).

Training film. Describes the training and duties of a Forest Service lookout man, and explains the assembly and use of the fire-finder.

Documentary. The sequence of action which takes place in spotting and reporting a forest fire, as seen from the viewpoint of a fire spotter on a mountaintop near the Cowichan Valley.

Docudrama. The role of BC Forest Service stand-treatment crews in the maintenance of sustained-yield forestry, as seen through the eyes of a new recruit. A variety of forest management techniques are discussed.

SUMMARY: This accession mainly comprises groups of radio spots produced by or for the British Columbia Department of Forests, Ministry of Forests, and Forest Service. These 30-second and 60-second spots were intended to promote public awareness of forest fire prevention, forest protection and conservation in the province. Exceptions are as follows: T4252:0001 is blank [was removed in 2019]; T4252:0004 is a 5-minute commentary on Victoria; T4252:0009 may be a partial soundtrack for a film or audio documentary outlining the history of logging in B.C.; T4252:0016 is off-air audio recording of a television interview with Forests Minister Tom Waterland on the "Webster!" television talk show. T4252:0017 is a demo tape for Westward Communications, featuring 12 60-second spots for a variety of sponsors; the copyright in the latter probably resides with the sponsors in question.
