The item is a black and white photograph probably taken by Charles Macmunn in 1897 or 1898. It is taken from Christchurch Cathedral in Victoria looking towards James Bay and shows the new Parliament buildings and the birdcage buildings.

Item is an architectural drawing possibly created by Christopher C. McRae for the 1892 British Columbia Parliament buildings design competition. The drawing shows the front elevation of the proposed building. In the upper right hand corner there is a rough pencil sketch showing a top view of three buildings.

The series consists of seven bound volumes and 54 fascicles containing bills of quantities and priced bills relating to the building of the new Parliament buildings in Victoria, B.C. in 1893.

The volumes are identified as contract 2 and cover three areas of the Parliament buildings: no. 2 Administrative building, no. 3 Land Registry office and colonnade and no. 4 Printing Office and colonnade. Each of the bills of quantities is divided into trades groups including: excavations, concrete foundations, mason, waller, bricklayer; carpenter and joiner; slater and plasterer; coppersmith; smith and founder; plumber and painter. Many of the volumes have a name on the front and notations, including pricing, throughout.

The series also includes a sketch plan of main stairs of the Parliament Buildings. This plan was removed from the records and reaccessioned as M889055. There is also a file of financial records and tables of measurements used for the construction of the building in 1896.

Reports have been created for the Department of Public Works by various sources, including Arthur Erikson Architects, The Environmental Analysis Group (TEAG), UBC School of Architecture, BCIT, Vancouver City Planning Department, and other various architects and engineers.

Papers relating to the building of the Parliament Buildings, Victoria, B.C.; lists of drawings, spreadsheet of contractor bids, accounts, letters, inventories, extras and alterations, landscaping, payments, etc. Also included are letters concerning the second design competition and one sheet, dated 1896, of costs for the Nanaimo Courthouse.

The series consists of photographs taken by the British Columbia Buildings Corporation to document projects 0490 and 0490B (0946). These two projects managed the restoration of the Parliament Buildings in Victoria, BC in 1978-1979. Photographs were taken before, during and after restoration and consist of colour and black and white negatives for project 0490; and colour negatives, colour prints, contact sheets and floor plans for project 0490B. The negatives were filed in a metal cabinet by project and negative number. The contact sheets were filed in a binder which included floor plans of the buildings. Each floor plan was annotated with arrows and notes recording negative numbers and the direction photographs were taken. There are negative lists for both projects, but only those for project 0490B are filled in. The negative lists note where each photograph was taken and can be compared against the contact sheets, the colour prints and the floor plans. Similar lists, contact sheets and floor plans existed for project 0490 but BCBC was unable to locate them at the time of transfer. Colour prints for project 0490 have subsequently been found in GR-3339, Deputy Minister photographs.

Includes: numerous official welcomes and ceremonies; Royal Review of ships of the RCN, US Navy and Royal Navy; visit to natural gas development at Fort St. John; rodeo at Williams Lake; opening of Okanagan Lake Bridge and Fort Langley restoration; UBC convocation (and bestowal of honorary degree on Princess Margaret); aerial and travelling shots from planes and trains. Premier W.A.C. Bennett and Lieutenant-Governor Frank Ross appear throughout.

Series consists of general files created by George Giles in his capacity as an employee of the Department of Public Works and as Deputy Minister of the Department and later Ministry of Public Works. The files cover the period from 1958 to 1992 and include records relating to daily affairs of the ministry as well as files relating to major public works projects including the British Columbia building in Vancouver, the Vancouver court house and the Legislative precinct in Victoria. In addition there are files relating to the formation of the British Columbia Buildings Corporation (BCBC), files relating to the Ministries of Deregulation, Recreation and Culture and Highways and Public Works, and files relating to the Provincial Capital Commission and its work. There are also some personal files interspersed throughout the series. The records are not arranged according to any particular filing or classification system.

The series consists of photographs, 1973-1979, acquired by George Giles as Deputy Minister of Highways and Public Works and its predecessor body, the Department of Public Works. There are photographs taken of the legislative precinct area in 1973 as part of the precinct '73 project as well as a photographic inventory of Victoria properties in 1976 and of models of the proposed Vancouver courthouse ca. 1974. Most of the photographs are colour prints taken during the renovations of the legislative buildings in Victoria 1978-1979, known as project 0490. This project took place after Giles had left Public Works and moved on to the Ministry of Recreation and Conservation. It is not clear how he obtained the photographs, however they are clearly numbered prints made from the same numbered negatives created by the British Columbia Buildings Corporation (BCBC) and described as GR-3267.

The record consists of a bound volume guestbook created for the open house at the Parliament buildings in Victoria, B.C. to mark the swearing-in of Premier Mike Harcourt and the executive council on November 5, 1991. Visitors to the event signed the guestbook with their names, addresses and the occasional comment.

The item is a release print of a documentary film made in 1951. The film shows Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visiting Vancouver and Vancouver Island during their 1951 Canadian tour. Footage includes: inspection of RCAF honour guard outside CNR station, greeting by Mayor Fred Hume and the Princess's speech at Vancouver City Hall, appearance at Brockton Point Oval, visit to Shaughnessy Hospital and services at Christ Church Cathedral, crowds on West Vancouver waterfront and HMCS Crusader. In Victoria: parade with the Canadian Scottish Regiment and the Royal Canadian Artillery, Premier Byron Johnson greets the Princess at the Legislative Buildings, honour guard inspection and artillery salute, Cowichan and Alberni Indian dance performance at Thunderbird Park. Return to Vancouver harbour; motorcade up Kingsway Avenue, Burnaby Municipal Hall, Royal Train arrives at New Westminster, departure. There are also good (brief) shots of Kitsilano Boy's Band, Junior Forest Wardens, Major J.S. Matthews, Very Rev. Cecil Swanson (dean of Christ Church), and BC Provincial Police on motorcycles with sidecars.

The file consists of about 180 feel unedited footage in seven reels. 1. Test or construction of a bridge on the Fraser River, ca. 1937. 2 & 3.
