The Kuper Island Indian Industrial School opened in 1890, was operated by the Roman Catholic Church, first through the Dicocese of Victoria, then the Missionaries of the Company of Mary and finally by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The school was mostly funded by the Department of Indian Affairs. It provided manual and domestic training for Indian Children of the Cowichan Indian Agency and adjacent Coast Salish groups.

The records include: inward and outward correspondence, 1890-1914; daily journals, 1893-1928; monthly pupil progress reports, examination records, conduct and punishment books, a clothing issue register, an agricultural work record book, and a trades instructor memorandum book, 1890-1907; quarterly reports, 1894-1909; and accounts and stores record books, 1892-1915.
