Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development fonds

The fonds consists of records generated by the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, its subordinate branches, divisions and agencies and predecessors, relating to the administration of Indian affairs in British Columbia. The fonds includes records created in the offices of the Indian Reserve Commissioner, the Indian Commissioner, and the Chief-Inspector of Indian Agencies for the Department of Indian Affairs and the Indian Affairs Branch. It also includes records of the Victoria office of the Indian Superintendent of British Columbia. Copies of records from the National Archives of Canada include microfilm copies of parts of RG 10 (central registry files and records of the Indian Reserve Commission) and photocopies of finding aids. Types of records from the office of the Indian Superintendent of British Columbia include records books, cash books, cheque books, letters of credit, statement of accounts, schedules, and requisition receipt books.

The collection consists of records generated by the Joint Reserve Commission, predominantly from 1876-1878. The
collection includes correspondence inward and outward, memoranda, and reports. Many of the records were sent from Commissioners to representatives of the Canadian and British Columbia governments, such as the Provincial Secretary and the Department of Indian Affairs.

Kuper Island Indian Industrial School fonds

The fonds consists of records of the Kuper Island Indian Industrial School and includes correspondence, daily journals, pupil progress reports, punishments books, a clothing issue register, agricultural work record book and a trades instructor memorandum book, quarterly reports and accounts and stores records books.

Indian Commission album

The series consists of a photograph album, known as the Indian Commission album, but possibly created by or for Dr. I.W. Powell (Superintendent of Indian Affairs for British Columbia) or A.C. Anderson (Commission and Fisheries Inspector) after 1881. It contains 100 photographs from Powell and Anderson's visits to First Nations communities on the British Columbia coast in 1879 and 1881. The photographs were taken by various photographers who accompanied Powell on his trips, including O.C. Hastings and Edward Dossetter. They are of the First Nations villages and people, the ship HMS Rocket and its crew, and landscapes encountered.
