The file consists of three letters relating to municipal elections in the City of Victoria, written by City Clerk William Leigh. The first, 25 January 1872, is to the Registrar of the Supreme Court (Richard Woods) to notify him of the election of Richard Lewis as mayor; the second, 29 January 1872 (also to Woods) notifies him of the election of James D. Robinson as councilor for James Bay Ward; and the third, 29 January 1872, is to the Chief Justice regarding oaths of office for Lewis and Robinson.

The file consists of drivers licenses issued to Walter Luney, Florence Augusta Luney and George Albert Hood at Victoria on 16 February 1925; these were the first drivers' licenses issued in British Columbia. Also included in this files are a copy of permit number 1, issued under the Motor Vehicle Speed Regulation Act on 29 February 1904, and a notification to attend a driver's examination (no date).

"Boys Own Gazette": manuscript magazine produced by students at Victoria High School, 1884. "Edited" by Edwin C. Smith and illustrated by T. Gore and T.G. Fox. The magazine consists of vignettes of school life, humorous anecdotes and cartoons. Also includes a water colour painting of the "Old High School" (i.e. Victoria Common School, 1851) and an ink drawing of "new" Victoria High School. Transferred to Visual Records accession 199205-009.

The file contains a black photograph album with 381 b&w photographs taken or acquired by Frank Boucher in 1947. The album contains photographs of Victoria and area including the Gulf Islands, Shawnigan Lake, Cowichan Lake, Sooke, Esquimalt and Vancouver. It includes photograph of houses and May Day parade floats.

The file consists of several typed pages and an excerpt of a handwritten letter by J.T. Walbran to an unknown correspondent with the initials WPQ. The letter indicates that "before leaving the Quadra, Mr. Keefer asked [Walbran] to give...a short account of the early history of Victoria, Nanaimo [and] Vancouver to embody in a report of his on the seaports of this coast which he has been asked to prepare by his Department at Ottawa."

File consists of 268 black and white photographs, negatives, and postcards. They were commercially produced by Hannah, Richard, or Albert Maynard and purchased by the Newcombe family, typically via Mrs. R. Maynard's Photographic Gallery. Images depict the Gorge, Victoria beach scenes, Esquimalt, Beacon Hill Park, studio portraits, houses, and other miscellaneous scenes. The original order of the photographs has been maintained.

The file consists of an indenture drawn up between James Douglas, Montague William Tyrwhitt Drake, William A.G. Young, Charles Good and Alice Good regarding the marriage settlement of property to Alice Good nee Douglas. The original indenture is dated 1862 and has various attachments and modifications that go up to 1900.

The item consists of a photograph album that belonged to B.W. Pearse. The front page is inscribed "B.W. Pearse, Fernwood, Victoria, British Columbia, 1860.” The album contains 55 b&w photographs collected by Pearse that primarily depict Yale, the Fraser River, areas around the Thompson River, and views of Victoria. Several of the photographs are by Frederick Dally. Pages are numbered and nearly every photograph has a caption.

The file consists of copies of essays by Martin Adolphus Kroeger. "My Memories" and "My voyage to South America on the MS 'Caliche', July 1929." Mr. Kroeger emigrated with his family from England to Edson, Alberta, in 1911 and subsequently lived in California and Victoria (where he was involved with the motion picture business), Vancouver, and South Africa, before returning to Victoria in 1965.

"Memoirs". Genealogical account of the Burkitt family and reminiscences of author's boyhood in London, England; account of author's apprenticeship at Salvation Army's Hadleigh training farm and of his emigration to Vancouver Island in 1911. Reminiscences of his career as farmer, dairyman, and horticulturist at Westholme (1911-1914), Saltspring Island (1919-1949), and Sooke (1950s). MS includes account of Burkitt's tenure as director of Saltspring and Gulf Islands Agricultural Association (1921-ca. 1938) and work with Canadian Corps of Commissionaires in Victoria (ca. 1960-1977). Also, reminiscences of author's military service (1914-1918) first as member of 67th Battalion (Western Scots) and later as pilot in the Royal Flying Corps. Xerox photos of author and family also included.

File consists of a black and white photographic print, presumably of Nellie Isabel Gosnell as a young woman and a two page typewritten history of the Chapman, Burnham, and Gosnell families. It provides family trees and recounts the movements of these families as they settled and became established in Cobble Hill and Victoria in the late 19th and early twentieth century. The history was written by Nellie Gosnell's daughter, Margaret (Gosnell) Taylor.

The item consists of a hardbound “order book” that appears to have been created in about 1914. There is no date written in the volume, but searches in the vital statistics index have turned up records that indicate it was created after April 1914 and prior to November 1914. The volume lists the names and addresses of women, and in many cases, it also lists what goods and services they could supply. Goods include embroidery, fine tatting, knitted garments, crochet hats, china riveting, tortoise shell products, dinner mats, children’s whitewear, and foodstuffs.

The volume may have been created by a local Women’s Institute, and may list women available to assist with fundraising or early war work. The majority of individuals listed lived in the Greater Victoria area, although several lived in the Cowichan Valley and Salt Spring Island.

The file consists of photocopies of Croft family information includes two letters to Edmund Croft from his brother, Henry Croft (Victoria, B.C.) 1916 and 1917, and two letters from Henry's widow, Mary Jean (Dunsmuir) Croft, 1917 as well as information on the Croft family compiled by the donor.

The file contains a photocopy of a letter from Mary Cridge to her sister-in-law, Elizabeth, written from the Marquis of Bute ca. 1855 (including a transcript copy); a photocopy of a letter from Harold W.H. Helby to Emily Carr, June 1944, in which he describes being in Victoria as a midshipman in 1882 and visiting the Cridge family and a photocopy of an Archives pioneer form for Bishop Cridge filled out by Maude Cridge.
