The series consists of 76 predominantly studio portraits of Indigenous people in what is now known as British Columbia, taken between ca. 1862 to 1890. The majority of the photographs were taken by Hannah Maynard, however some are attributed to Frederick Dally and Carlo Gentile (perhaps others). Photographs were produced and marketed as commercial products popular during the 1860s and 1870s, such as 'cartes de visites', and, to a lesser extent, as personal portraits in the late 1880s. Maynard's studio produced conventional portraits as well as composite photographs which combined portraits with field photography landscapes. Indigenous communities and individual's names have been identified at the item level when known.

The item is a reel of film footage. "Fourth reel of duplications and out-footage from the B.C. Forest Service's documentation of the Royal Visit of 1939. Scenes include: Huge parade of veterans with crowds near Pattullo Bridge in New Westminster, a building across the street called "Pacific Motors". [Steamship] "Prince Robert" leaving Victoria. "Will ye no come back again" captioned across the sky. People on the breakwater, Victoria, watching the ship carry the Royal couple back to Vancouver. Planes fly over Lion's Gate Bridge, Vancouver. Children dance around the maypole to honour the King and Queen. Crowds of people. Parade of veterans. King and Queen, preceded and followed by many cars, drive around a curve in the road. A ceremonial Welcome arch in Saanich. A sign reading "Saanich School Children", kids waving flags. King and Queen drive over a wooden bridge under Saanich arch, throngs of people cheering and waving flags. Lunch at a picnic table for a family. The item is a print of a documentary film. The Lord Mayor of London, Sir Robert Bellinger, visits British Columbia to celebrate the centenary of the union of the colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. Film shows ceremonial events at New Westminster, Fort Langley, Government House in Victoria, and elsewhere. People shown include Centennial officials, Premier W.A.C. Bennett, actor Raymond Burr, etc.

Also, correspondence relating to mining development and mineral claims in Kootenay district with Robert Garvin McLeod (mine owner) and others; re sale of lots in the towns of Nelson, Erie, Three Forks, Comaplix, and Kaslo; re breweries, hotels, grocers, a furniture store, and other businesses in Nelson; relating to land sales of the Columbia and Kootenay Railway Company, and the Similkameen Valley Coal and Development Company; with W.H. Keary, Mayor of New Westminster, re sale of town lots; correspondence with Sir Wilfrid Laurier re Galliher's appointment as a judge for the British Columbia Court of Appeal, 1908-1909.

The item consists of a kinescope of the August 5, 1954 CBC coverage of the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, sponsored by Northern Electric. Events reported on include: rowing finals from the Vedder Canal (Prince Phillip in attendance, Canada wins gold medal in the eights); boxing from the Forum; wrestling from Kerrisdale Arena; fencing from Lord Byng High School gymnasium; lawn bowls from New Westminster; track and field from Empire Stadium; and swimming from Empire Pool. Includes ad inserts for Northern Electric flash bulbs and kitchen appliances.

The series consists of letters written by Mary Susannah Moody to her mother and sister in England. The letters were written from New Westminster, Victoria, and Hope. Includes transcripts.
