Kokanee of Meadow Creek

The item is a composite print of a documentary film from 1968. It shows the rehabilitation of the Kokanee fishery following the construction of the Duncan dam. Premier W.A.C. Bennett is seen at the dam's opening on August 17, 1967.

Premier Bennett campaign -- forestry tour

The item consists of two reels of original film footage from 1969. It shows Premier W.A.C. Bennett at the opening of the Cowichan Valley Forest Museum in Duncan, 17 May 1969; at Prince Rupert [ferry terminal?], 19 May; visiting the Terrace & District Hospital, Terrace Municipal Hall, and B.C. Vocational School, 21 May; and laying the cornerstone for the new Bulkley Valley Forest Industries Ltd. lumber mill at Houston, 22 May. R.G. Williston, H.R. MacMillan & Waldo Skillings also appear.

Princess in wonderland

Includes: numerous official welcomes and ceremonies; Royal Review of ships of the RCN, USN and Royal Navy; visit to natural gas development at Fort St. John; rodeo at Williams Lake; opening of Okanagan Lake Bridge & Fort Langley restoration; UBC convocation (and bestowal of honorary degree on Princess Margaret); aerial and travelling shots from planes and trains. Premier W.A.C. Bennett and Lieutenant-Governor Frank Ross appear throughout.

The good life

The item is a release print of a promotional film from 1968. It shows the economic and other benefits enjoyed by BC residents as a result of political leadership and industrial development in the province. Includes sequences on primary and secondary industries; the damming of the Columbia and Peace Rivers for hydro-electric power and flood control; expansion of highways; BC Ferries; tourism; assistance to homeowners; medical services; educational facilities; etc. Premier W.A.C. Bennett makes some brief prepared remarks at the film's beginning and end.

Port Mann Bridge

The item is a composite print of an industrial film, made ca. 1964 showing the engineering and construction of the Port Mann Bridge -- the last link in BC's portion of the Trans-Canada Highway -- and its official opening on 12 June 1964 by Premier W.A.C. Bennett. Also includes historical footage of 1930s traffic and the opening of Pattullo Bridge in 1937 by Premier T.D. Pattullo.

It shows the potential health hazards posed by environmental pollution in B.C., and the work of the Public Health Service and Pollution Control Board. Includes scenes documenting various sources of air and water pollution; sewage treatment; field testing of air, water, shellfish to determine health dangers, etc. Begins with a speech by Premier W.A.C. Bennett on the importance of keeping B.C. beautiful, despite the demands of progress.

Lady of the lake

The item is a film travelogue, made in 1953. It shows the city of Kelowna and the 1953 Kelowna Regatta. Scenes include car ferry on Okanagan Lake; city streets and park; beach and water sports; Premier W.A.C. Bennett; Regatta parade; nighttime pageant at Aquatic Pool with synchronized swimming, square dancing and crowning of the Lady of the Lake; swimming races at the pool; speedboat and hydroplane races; men's diving competition. The Lady of the Lake introduces and closes the film.

The item is a composite print of a documentary film made ca. 1957. It shows highway construction in BC. Includes planning and surveys; opening of contractors' bids by Highways Minister Gaglardi; clearing of route by heavy equipment; culvert assembly; drilling and blasting rock; road bed preparation; paving. Traffic control and overpass construction are also discussed. Sections of Highways 1 and 1A are shown, and Premier W.A.C. Bennett presides at an official opening.

Road of the caribou

The item is a release print of a promotional film from 1964. It depicts the history of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, and a look at the area through which it passes. Shows inaugural run from North Vancouver to Fort St. John, Oct. 1958, (with Premier W.A.C. Bennett aboard) and driving of the Golden Spike at Fort St. John, Oct. 5 1958. Also includes footage of the Williams Lake Stampede, Peace River grain fields, oil/gas drilling and refining; also the operations of the PGE (North Vancouver rail yards, winter operations).
