Miscellaneous recordings by Orchard

The series consists of miscellaneous audio recordings by Imbert Orchard, including interviews, actualities (i.e., live location sounds), production elements or sections of CBC documentaries and BC Archives sound programs, and a number of unidentified recordings.

Northwest B.C. : Atlin, Stikine, Alice Arm, Portland Canal

The sub-series consists of oral history interviews about the history of British Columbia's northwestern regions, including four interviews about the Portland Canal region (Alice Arm and Anyox), 1910-1950s, and one about the Atlin-Wrangell area, 1895-1915.

Yukon

The sub-series consists of one oral history interview on the history of the Yukon Territory.

Scott of the Antarctic : [miscellaneous recordings]

The sub-series consists of interviews and other recordings related to Robert Falcon Scott's ill-fated 1910-1913 Antarctic expedition to the South Pole. It includes interviews with expedition members Tom Clissold and Sir Charles Wright, as well as with Charles R. Ford, who served on Scott's 1901-1904 Antarctic expedition. The "program master" and "show" items are likely recordings of the CBC radio documentary about Scott that was broadcast on the series "CBC Radio International" on March 23, 1962. The 30-minute program was researched by Peter Haworth and produced by John Edwards at CBC Vancouver. The voices of Tom Clissold, Charles R. Ford, and geologist Frank Debenham were heard in the program.

Upper Coast : Rivers Inlet to Grenville Channel

The sub-series consists of oral history interviews about the history of, and modern life in, the Bella Coola, Central Coast and Central Coast Islands regions, from ca. 1890 to the 1960s. The interviews focus on the areas of Anahim Lake, the Bella Coola Valley, Kimsquit, Lonesome Lake, and Rivers Inlet.

Imbert Orchard photographs

The series consists of three accessions containing photographs collected or created by Imbert Orchard in connection with his oral history and radio documentary production work. The photos in accessions 197811-002 and 198107-080 were acquired by Orchard from a variety of private sources during the 1960s. 197811-002 includes images of the Great Westminster fire (1898); the casts of stage shows at the Lonsdale Theatre, North Vancouver (1913); and the steamer "Yosemite" at dock in Vancouver. 198107-080 comprises many images from the Skeena region, including the Skeena River, sternwheelers, landscape, and the towns of Hazelton, Minskinisht, Kitwanga, Port Essington, Prince Rupert, and Telkwa, as well as Kitselas Canyon and the Bulkley Valley. 67 of these pictures are negatives that were apparently taken in 1962 (probably on one of Orchard's interviewing trips), and show people who may be among his many interviewees. 198602-018 comprises extensive photo documentation of the life, family and occupations of Martin Starret (1888-1973), who was one of Orchard's key interviewees, and the subject of his 1981 book "Martin: The Story of a Young Fur Trader" (Sound Heritage Series, no. 30). These photos were acquired by Orchard from Mrs. Violet Starret, the widow of Martin Starret.
