News footage. Interviews with Mr. Blake, Mr. Neil, and David Anderson about coping with a possible oil spill off Vancouver Island.

[Jetfoils on Puget Sound]

Out-takes?. Footage of various Boeing jetfoil ferries in harbour and at sea, including Seattle harbour. Final sequence [dated 19-Sep-1976] shows jetfoil "Flying Princess II" entering Victoria's Inner Harbour.

News footage. News feature about Victoria's Chinatown, including footage of: historic buildings; shop windows; parade with dragon dance and martial arts (Chinese New Year?); Fan Tan Alley; gambling table; interviews with merchants; archival photos; etc.

[MARCOM history]

Compilation. Guns [at Fort Rodd Hill?]. Combined fotage of naval combat, World War One and Two. Seaman wearing cap labelled "HMCS Bonaventure". Air and sea combat: aircraft carrier with planes taking off and helicopter hovering over deck. Submarine. Recent naval exercises with destroyers (one marked #282), helicopter, and missile launcher. Control room with officers, radar screen, etc.

[Heritage buildings ; Lai at Immigration Building]

Television stock shots. The reel begins with brief sequences on the Sooke Region Museum and on Helmcken House. The balance of the reel (shot 06-Dec-1977) deals with the old Immigration Building at the corner of Dallas Road and Ontario Street in Victoria's James Bay neighbourhood. The building is in the process of being demolished. In the years 1908-1923, it was used as a detention centre for processing and confining Chinese immigrants. Dr. David Lai tours the building, talks about Chinese immigration and the head tax, and transcribes some of the old Chinese writing from the walls of the cells, which comprise messages and poems written by the immigrants confined there.

[Tony Cox -- Sea Cadets, La Paz, Mexico]

Television stock shots. Footage of Royal Canadian Sea Cadets aboard the tall ship "Svanen" (a sail training vessel) and sightseeing in La Paz, Mexico.

[Oil industry]

Television stock shots. Includes footage of oil-port; oil tanker & tanks, Cherry Point; tar sands (Freebe) ; and lab testing of lubricating oils.

[Highlands]

Television stock shots. This footage presumably depicts the Highlands district northwest of Victoria (adjacent to Finlayson Arm), which became the district municipality of Highlands in 1993.

[Military : ships and aircraft demonstration ; the "Bonaventure" and "Provider"]

Television stock shots. In the first section, a crowd watches from Beacon Hill Park as naval vessels and coastal patrol aircraft (including an Argus) maneuver nearby, possibly in some kind of demonstration. The second section shows the supply ship H.M.C.S. "Provider" and the aircraft carrier H.M.C.S. "Bonaventure" underway at sea. "Provider" refuels another naval vessel while they cruise side by side.

[Inner Harbour : hawkers, etc.]

Television stock shots. The first section shows street vendors with their carts (as well as musicians and tourists) on the Inner Harbour causeway. The second part (dated 10-Jul-1978) shows the demolition of the old Black Ball Ferry terminal on the Inner Harbour.
