Records consist largely of receipts for the sale of town lots, suburban and country lands, and unsurveyed rural lands, issued by Assistant Commissioners of Lands and Works for Cariboo District, Lillooet District, Yale District, and New Westminster District. The series also includes land sale records pertaining to Lytton, Seymour, Douglas, Port Moody, Fort Langley, and Similkameen district, and a trading licences receipt book issued by Frank Trevor, Collector at Quesnel.

This series consists of a variety of records created by Government Agents and other government officials stationed in the Lytton, Yale and Kamloops area from 1858-1949. The records include registrations of water rights (mostly for mining purposes); placer mining forms; mining record books recording mineral claims, placer claims, leases, records of abandonment and bills of sale; and an unlabeled cash book covering Cache Creek, Bonaparte, Okanagan, Tranquille, Dead Man’s Creek, Savona Ferry, Kamloops, and Nicola which records office expenditures and collectorates such as school taxes, property taxes, leases, road tolls, court fees, water records, licences, etc.

This series consists of records related to the postal service operated in the colony of British Columbia, from 1858-1871. The records were created at post offices around BC, including Fort Yale, Lillooet, Hope, Lytton, William Creek, as well as the Postmaster General office in New Westminster. There is also one book from the Victoria post office.

Most records document the movement of mail between the Cariboo district and New Westminster along the Fraser River. Most of the volumes record the arrival, departure and destination of letters or parcels. There are also various financial account books tracking sale the of stamps and expenses. The records are arranged chronologically.

Log books of fines, fees and costs

This series contains two journals documenting Incidents brought before the police court whether by officers or individuals. The journals appear to have been used as account books and each trial listed in the journal also notes arrest fees, fines, bail or other associated costs that needed to be paid to the courts or the plaintiff. Journals list the following information arranged in columns: date, names of people involved in the incident, the crime, the sentence and/or amount of the fine (s) or other fees, followed by a sum of total costs to collect.

Miscellaneous records of the Colonial Secretary

This series consists of assorted correspondence in and correspondence out from the Colonial Secretary or are related to the general administration of the colonial government with no known creator. The records date from approximately 1858 to early 1871. The majority of the records were created or received by the Colonial Secretary of the Colony of British Columbia, but the series also includes a few records of the Colonial Secretary of the Colony of Vancouver Island.

The majority of the records are correspondence and memoranda with other government officials such as the Attorney General, Court Registrar, Audit Office and Lands and Works Department. Records regard subjects such as: pre-emptions, court procedures, the expected influx of miners from San Francisco, and expenditures.

Financial records from Victoria's Supreme Court of Civil Justice. There is a receipt book, 1859-1964 recording payments made by Registrar Thomas G. William to suitors. The date, the number of the plaint, the "Full amount of judgment and costs" and/or the amount of cash received [pounds, shillings, pence] and the signature of the suitor receiving the money. In 1862 the format and handwriting changes. Registrar's account book, 1866-1970 showing daily entries of sheriff fees and court fees (in dollars and cents). A booklet of "Fees collected during the Circuit of 1870, 21 June to 26 August" marked Duplicate.

This series contains acknowledgements of moneys received by the Lands Department pursuant to the pre-emption or sale of crown land. These certificates of purchase include district, legal description of land, acreage, date and terms of payment, name of payer, pre-emption record number, certificate of improvement number, crown grant number and departmental file numbers. The certificates are divided into four series.

The 107 volumes include lists of prisoners, descriptions of prisoners, sentence books, work records, charge books, employment registers, registers of clothing issued, reports of prisoners' conduct, punishment books, gaolers' reports, duty rosters and daily diaries, ration books, food account books, stores and provisions account books, financial records, doctors' record books, medical order books, receipts and 1875 correspondence from the Superintendent of Police.

Records have been grouped by subject matter, then arranged chronologically when possible. The series consists of photographs of engineering projects managed by the Dept. of Public Works. The photographs consist of glass lantern slides, some numbered. The views photographed include bridges, road works, buildings and general views and may have been taken between 1859 and 1930. Many of the slides are credited to J. Howard A. Chapman, a well known photographer based in Victoria between 1895 and 1936.
