Rithet and Company concerning indebtedness and bills of sale of various schooners.

Imbert Orchard fonds

The fonds consists of oral history interviews, radio programs, and other sound recordings, as well as scripts, notes, correspondence, photographs, two amateur films, and a drawing. This material was created or accumulated by Imbert Orchard during the production of oral history interviews and documentary radio programs for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Vancouver, and in his later career as a university professor and freelance radio producer.

The fonds consists of reminiscences, diaries, notebooks, account books and papers accumulated by Mallandaine as a collector of road taxes. The fonds also includes a sketchbook of 17 sketches (originally catalogued as E/C/M29.1 and later as PDP03987-PDP003394, PDP03997-PDP03999 and PDP03401-PDP03406) and 3 sketches removed from MS-0470, box 2, file 8 and catalogued as PDP03395, PDP03396 and PDP03400.

The fonds consists of correspondence, certificates, photographs and paintings of William Middleton. The photographs consist of images of family members, postcards and views of Victoria and British Columbia, views of England, and of a trip to India. The fonds also includes some out-takes or fragments of the film "Out of the Land of Lilliput", a historical documentary produced by Home Oil Distributors Ltd. in 1935.

The fonds consists of records created by William Washington Bolton, relating to the Province Exploring Expeditions of 1894 and 1896. The fonds includes journals, a scrapbook with newspaper articles and other material, maps, watercolours sketches and photographs. The fonds also includes Bolton's 1914 reminiscence of his trip to the Yukon and Alaska.

Archibald Menzies fonds

The fonds consists of collected material created by or pertaining to Archibald Menzies. It includes a microfilm copy of Menzies' journal written on Captain George Vancouver's voyage to the Northwest Coast, as well as correspondence (inward and outward), two miniature portraits of Menzies and his wife, as well as other miscellaneous documents. The textual records found in accession 77-069 are largely illegible, but may all relate to a diploma awarded to Richard Menzies in 1769 or the material in A/A/90/M52. The fonds also includes Menzies' signet ring with his seal and the motto "Will God I Shall.'

The fonds consists of diaries, correspondence, journals, notebooks, sketchbooks and account books of Henry Pering Pellew Crease; diaries, correspondence, sketchbooks, notebooks, and letter index of Sarah (Lindley) Crease; diaries, correspondence, notebooks, sketchbooks and commonplace book of Lindley Crease; diaries, sketchbooks, library catalogue and correspondence of Susan Crease; diaries, sketchbooks and notebooks of Josephine Crease, including records relating to Island Arts and Crafts Society; and diaries, correspondence and account books of Arthur Crease. Includes diaries of Emily Howard Crease, correspondence of Barbara Crease, correspondence of other family members, diaries and sketchbooks of Mary Crease, and minutes of the Colonial Securities Company. Fonds includes maps of the Crimea, Toronto, and various locations in B.C. Also includes a scrapbook regarding the Bishop Hills, Dean Cridge dispute.

Alice Ravenhill fonds

The fonds consists predominantly of records relating the publication of “Meet Mr. Coyote”, “Folklore of the Far West”, “The Native Tribes of British Columbia”, and “A Corner Stone of Canadian Culture”. In addition to these records there are correspondence and notes that tangentially relate to these publications and the creator’s interest in the artwork of B.C. indigenous populations. This includes works of art produced by both the Society for the Furtherance of B.C. Indian Arts and Crafts as well as William A. Newcombe.

The fonds includes drafts, additional legends and artwork that were not published as part of above listed works, correspondence, and records relating to the British Columbia Indian Arts and Welfare Society. Of note, the fonds also contains the doctoral certificate awarded to the creator in 1948 by the University of British Columbia and two examples of embroidery by the creator. These latter two are part of accession 199306-036 and have been assigned reference numbers PDP00679 and PDP00680.

Of those records relating to the writing of “Folklore of the Far West” some had already been re-housed and organized according to their geographic region of origin upon their initial arrival at the Archives; namely those in accessions 199306-036 and F/1/R19. This order was not further disturbed by the archivist in the process of arranging these records. Those records in accessions 86-064 and 81-152C, which had not been previously processed, were left in the order in which they were bound on entry to the archives and include records relating to each of the publications listed above.

Lou J. Englehart fonds

The fonds consists of watercolour sketches and one drawing of beehive burners created in the field by Lou J. Englehart as the basis for a series of oil paintings. As the original source of the oil paintings, the watercolours document the state of beehive burners within a four-year period after they were outlawed in 1970. The fonds also includes 1 oil painting of the Mazur Lumber Co., Elko, sawmill and burner, 1974. It is based on the watercolour sketch PDP10033 from May 1974

1997 North American Indigenous Games fonds

The fonds consists of the records generated by the 1997 North American Indigenous Games in the course of managing the sport and cultural events that took place in Victoria, BC in August 1997. The fonds includes two series: the management files of Alex Nelson, Executive Director and Rick Brant, General Manager and marketing files. The management files are arranged by subject and include correspondence with the Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Association of BC (ASRA) and other records relating to the management, administration and financial aspects of the games. The management files also include policy and procedure files, briefing materials, reports and minutes from meetings. The marketing files are arranged alphabetically by subject and consist of general files regarding all aspects of marketing the sport and culture events of the games. The marketing files also include a poster, examples of bronze, silver and gold medals and three videocassettes.

Ernest Baynes Cale fonds

The fonds consists of records generated by Ernest Baynes Cale in Burnaby from 1911-1935 in the course of his activities as a breeder and exhibitor of poultry, as manager and editor of the magazine Successful Poultryman, as a member of the BC Poultry Association and as an employee of the firm McLellan and McCarter, Ltd. The fonds includes contest lists, draft advertisements, graphic designs (some by Frank Eastman), correspondence, certificates, a list of ingredients and a nutritional analysis of animal feed, chick records, invoices, blank stationery for Successful Poultryman, certified copies of poultry pedigrees, a booklet by McLellan & McCarter Ltd., an invitation, two “BC Poultry Association Egg Record and Account Books” and a photograph of the “Yesterlaid” poultry ranch in Nanaimo.

The fonds also includes 13 drawings of poultry drawn in 1914 by Frank Eastman as illustrations for Successful Poultryman. Also included are plans to accompany “An open-air poultry home” by Dale R. Van Horn of Milton, Wisconsin; 2 maps of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta (1917); 1 map of Northern Alberta (1917); 1 map of Burnaby Municipality [19--]; 1 map of the BC Railway Belt (1907) and 1 map of a portion of Osoyoos District (1891).

Mildred Valley Thornton fonds

The fonds consists of Mildred Valley Thornton's sound recordings documenting the Indigenous music, dance and folklore of the Northwest Coast, recorded between about 1950 and 1954. The fonds also includes some textual material that documents her music recording activities and other interests, from 1947 to 1967. In addition there is a newspaper article from 1971 and family notes on her artwork from 1976.

Fonds consists of the personal and professional records of Ina D. D. Uhthoff and three of her paintings. The records primarily document Uhthoff's relationships with various art galleries, either regarding selling or exhibiting her works. Some of these records were created by other individuals connected to Ina Uhthoff (principally John Uhthoff, son of Ina Uhthoff) and relate to the selling or disposition of her artwork.

Metro family fonds

Series consists of photographs of the Metro family. Four of the photographs are large portraits that have been hand-painted (see item level descriptions for more detail). The other six photographs are photographic prints mounted on cardstock. Three of the photographs are exterior and interior views of the Kleanthes Metro's restaurant, Maryland Oyster and Chop House, located at 85 Government Street in Victoria, and the other three photographs are family portraits, however the individuals cannot be identified in all photographs. One of the family portraits is taken by Richard Maynard and another is taken by Hannah Maynard.
