The Lieutenant Colonel Lorne Ross D.S.O. fonds consists of photographs, pamphlets, clippings, journals, correspondence, and other materials related to Ross' career in the Canadian Militia. The fonds largely related to his service as commanding officer of the 67th Battalion Western Scots during the First World War, both overseas in England and France, and at Willows Camp in Victoria B.C.
Records were arranged and described at BC Archives according to type or subject at the item or file level. Issues of the Western Scot donated with the materials were catalogued in the BC Archives library. Records consist of:

The fonds consists of ca. 258 photographs created or acquired by Herbert Carmichael between 1897 and the early 1900s. Most of the photographs are in two albums and there are also 66 loose photographs and negatives.

The fonds includes: correspondence, calculations, plans and drawings regarding engineering contracts; reference material for engineers; newspaper clippings and promotional material on the company; and personal records of Adrian Barclay Sanderson. The company’s focus was on bridges, and the records represent work on major projects such as the MacDonald-Cartier Bridge, the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge, and a number of Pacific Great Eastern Railway bridges.

In addition to bridges, the A.B. Sanderson Company was involved in a number of significant projects including the Mount Kobau observatory. Additional projects include the Esquimalt Sports Centre and the Mt. Tolmie Reservoir, as well as a number of schools, sports arenas, water treatment facilities, and industrial buildings on Vancouver Island and British Columbia. The records include inspection reports for the Canadian National Railway tunnels that connected the CNR lines to the Second Narrows rail bridge.

A. B. Sanderson was named as technical advisor to the Royal Commission inquiry into the Second Narrows Bridge collapse, and the records in this fonds related to the Second Narrows Bridge are primarily newspaper clippings and reports.

Financial records for the company were not in the custody of Ker, Priestman and Associates at the time of transfer and do not make up part of this fonds.

The fonds consists of records documenting the professional career of Hubert Mansell, an Inspector in the British Columbia Provincial Police. The fonds consists of photographs and textual records. The photographs are primarily group portraits of BC Provincial Police officers. The majority of the photographs are from the 1940s, but some are from earlier as well. A small number of the photographs have identifying information on the verso. The textual records consist of letters of transfer and recommendation, miscellaneous correspondence and a selection of BC Provincial Police nominal rolls from various dates (seemingly in support of personal research), and a collection of miscellaneous event invitations and ephemera.

The fonds consists of scrapbooks and files of clippings of Albert Edward Todd and a written account entitled "A Summer's Automobile Tour Along the Pacific Coast," dated 1911. The scrapbooks are bound in four large volumes and are numbered Volumes 2 - 5. Volume 1 may refer to the loose clippings in folders (I-VII), which was previously maintained in binders. The scrapbooks consist primarily of newspaper clippings from Victoria newspapers, however personal correspondence, maps, and ephemera are also interfiled. The main subject matter covered by the scrapbooks is transportation, with an emphasis on highways and railroads. Todd was active in Victoria in promoting transportation and tourism. Other subjects include local politics (including coverage of his own political career) and developments and land use in Victoria. Personal and professional correspondence can be found throughout the records. The textual records are from the Old MS collection and are assigned reference codes E/D/T56 (written account) and E/D/T56.1 (clippings and scrapbooks).

Also included in the fonds are 7 b&w photographs mounted on a single cardstock. The photographs were taken along the Pacific Highway pathfinding trip in 1910, made by A.E. Todd and Ada Todd. The pathfinding trip served as their honeymoon after they were married in Los Angeles.

The fonds consists of correspondence and reports written by and about Robert William Torrens between 1858 and 1865. In 1859 and 1865, Torrens took part in several different expeditions that took him to Haida Gwaii, along the Nass River, through the area of Clayoquot Sound, and to Bear River. During these trips, he interacted with many local Indigenous populations, and wrote about these encounters in his reports. The fonds also includes several letters of recommendation for Torrens and his 1865 oath of office for the position of stipendiary magistrate for the colony of Vancouver Island.

The fonds consists of records relating to the missionary work of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI). Most records were created and accumulated by the administrations of various OMI provinces that have operated in British Columbia: St. Peter’s Province, St. Paul’s Vice-Province, St. Paul’s Province, and OMI Lacombe Canada. Additionally, the fonds contains some records created by the administration of the Vice-Province of Whitehorse. Other records pre-date the establishment of OMI provinces in Canada. Materials mostly relate to Oblate missionary work in British Columbia and the Yukon, but the fonds also includes some records pertaining to Oblate work throughout Canada, as well as records pertaining to foreign mission work (such as materials related to the OMI’s Provincial Delegation of Peru).

The fonds consists of the business records of the Victoria, Saanich & New Westminster Railway Company (VS&NW). The records document the failed attempts of the company to construct a rail and ferry link between Victoria and New Westminster and consist of meeting minutes, correspondence, financial records, lists of share holders, maps, by-laws, and various other business records. The records document exchanges between the company and engineers as well as the company and different levels of government (municipal, provincial, and federal), specifically in the company's attempts to secure funding. Amor de Cosmos was the founder of the company, however John Stuart Yates, the secretary, appears most frequently throughout the records.

The fonds consists of the personal and professional records of Einar Maynard Gunderson between 1899 and 1980. They include biographical notes, personal correspondence, music programs and business and financial papers. The fonds also includes professional records from his various roles including Finance Minister for the Social Credit Government, the Vice President for Pacific Great Eastern Railway, and as a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade. There is also a large assortment of family and professional photos.

The fonds consists of photographs taken by Alfred Dresser, and perhaps also by his sons, Jack and Frank. The photographs consist of common activities (such as going to the beach, picnics, rowing, cycling), local events (regatta at the Gorge, Royal Engineers sport days), family life, and local landmarks and views (street scenes, harbour scenes, Goldstream power station). The fonds also includes a series of photographs taken at the Alaska–Yukon–Pacific Exposition world fair hosted in Seattle, 1909.

The photographs contain several shots of unidentified individuals. Recurring individuals are likely family members: children are most likely Olive and Bertram Dresser, and adults may be Jack or Frank Dresser, their wives Hilda or Margaret, or family friends. Only a few of the photographs depict Alfred or Eliza Dresser.

The fonds consists of two volumes of poetry; a diary from when Diespecker was sent to England during World War Two whilst in the Canadian Army; a newspaper clipping about CJOR radio station (Vancouver); a signed copy of his novel, Elizabeth; a manuscript of a play called The March of Progress; and an audio recording of two radio programs created by Diespecker that were both broadcast on CBC radio during World War Two.

The fonds consists of two series : Charles Ross papers (MS-3427) and the Charles Ross collection (MS-3428). The Charles Ross papers consist of both inward and outward correspondence from Charles Ross, as well as a letter from his wife Isabella (Mainville) Ross. The series also consists of Ross's appointment to Chief Trader of the Hudson's Bay Company. Records in MS-3428 were found in the Old Manuscript Collection at the BC Archives and had originally been cataloged as the "Charles Ross collection." The provenance of these records is unclear. The majority of the records in the Charles Ross collection relate tangentially to Ross, and consist mostly of records relating to Ross's in-laws.

Correspondence discusses both personal business and matters related to HBC forts. Some correspondence includes reference to Indigenous peoples, namely the Heiltsuk and Nuxalk.

The fonds consists of the records of the Hart family and document their activities primarily during the first half of the 20th century. Three creators have been identified within the fonds—Edward Charles Hart, Margaret Hart, and their daughter, Ellen Hart—however other family members are also represented within the fonds.

The fonds consists of the compiled research of Major James Skitt Matthews, the first Archivist of the City of Vancouver. The majority of the items are bound volumes on a particular subject and often contain copies of photographs and maps. The fonds also includes the scroll of marksmen at British Columbia and a list of the British Columbia members of the official Canadian rifle teams at Wimbledon and Bisley.

The fonds consists of the inward and outward correspondence of Paul Fraser, as well as his appointment to Chief Trader of the Hudson's Bay Company. Correspondence dates from 1852 to 1854. The fonds also consists of a two page type-script produced in 1936 relating to the grave of Paul Fraser. The type-script includes a transcribed extract from a letter from Chief Factor James Douglas to WIlliam G. Smith, Secretary of the Hudson's Bay Company in London regarding Fraser's death.

The fonds consists of records created by several members of Peter Skene Ogden's family between 1831 and 1864, and includes a file of material that was compiled in 1931 about Ogden. The bulk of the fonds includes material written or received by Peter Skene Ogden, although the fonds also includes correspondence and other records relating to his parents, Isaac Ogden and Sarah (Hanson) Ogden, his son, Peter Ogden, his nephew Michael Ogden, and his son-in-law, Archibald McKinlay. Much of the correspondence is personal in nature and documents Ogden's relationship with his family and the settling of his estate. The fonds also includes his appointments to Chief Trader and Chief Factor in the Hudson's Bay Company.

The fonds consists of agreements and correspondence relating to Southgate's properties and business activities in Victoria between 1876 and 1886.

Series consists of photographs of the Metro family. Four of the photographs are large portraits that have been hand-painted (see item level descriptions for more detail). The other six photographs are photographic prints mounted on cardstock. Three of the photographs are exterior and interior views of the Kleanthes Metro's restaurant, Maryland Oyster and Chop House, located at 85 Government Street in Victoria, and the other three photographs are family portraits, however the individuals cannot be identified in all photographs. One of the family portraits is taken by Richard Maynard and another is taken by Hannah Maynard.

The fonds consists of the personal records of Rev. Walter F. Rushbrook and includes a letter written by Rushbrook to his nephew, some news clippings, a letter written by Rushbrook to a Mr. Hume providing a biographical overview of Rushbrook's life, and a typed manuscript with handwritten corrections of a novel by Rushbrook entitled "The Trollers." By his own account, the novel is "semi-fictional" and details life on the Pacific coast. The fonds also includes 2 photographs of Rushbrook (one with the Northern Cross), one postcard of Port Essington ca. 1909, one photograph of totem poles (unknown location), and one photograph of unidentified individuals in a boat.

The fonds consists of records created or acquired by Ozzie Hutchings which document his activities in Anyox and Stewart B.C. The fonds includes two memoirs written by Hutchings, one about the history of Anyox, written in 1966 and one about the history of Stewart, written in 1972.

There are also 63 black and white photographs created or acquired by Hutchings in the 1920s and 1930s which mainly document the 1936 Skeena flood and its impact on Anyox and Terrace as well as snow slides photographs from the 1930s. In addition there are 27 black and white copy prints loaned by Hutchings for copying by the Provincial Archives in 1972. These prints show the town site of Anyox including the dam, the smelter and various fires.

Fonds consists of the personal and professional records of Ina D. D. Uhthoff and three of her paintings. The records primarily document Uhthoff's relationships with various art galleries, either regarding selling or exhibiting her works. Some of these records were created by other individuals connected to Ina Uhthoff (principally John Uhthoff, son of Ina Uhthoff) and relate to the selling or disposition of her artwork.

The fonds consists of 92 black and white 13 x 9 cm photographic prints of Victoria and area, taken by Frank Stanley Martin between 1956 and 1963. Most of the photographs are numbered from 1-77 (no number 38 or 76) with an additional 17 unnumbered prints. Most are identified on the back with the date and place and some include other information. This information may have been recorded by Martin. In several cases, his attributions as to street names may not be correct.

The photographs are mostly of Victoria streets and buildings and include the Post Office, Customs building, shops and offices, the Court house, street scenes, homes and apartment buildings. There are also a few photos of Beacon Hill Park, the Breakwater and Oak Bay.

The fonds consists of records relating to Indar Singh Gill and his family, and document his private, religious, and social life. The records include four different Sikh prayer books, a diary in which Gill recorded the family's basic vital information, some business and financial records, and the passports of Gill and his wife, Bhagwant Kaur. Kaur's passport documents the immigration of her and their oldest children from India to Canada in 1938. The fonds also contains 20 photographs of the Gill family.
