Maynard prints

File consists of 268 black and white photographs, negatives, and postcards. They were commercially produced by Hannah, Richard, or Albert Maynard and purchased by the Newcombe family, typically via Mrs. R. Maynard's Photographic Gallery. Images depict the Gorge, Victoria beach scenes, Esquimalt, Beacon Hill Park, studio portraits, houses, and other miscellaneous scenes. The original order of the photographs has been maintained.

Group portrait of children in fancy dress

Item consists of a mount of one group portrait of 19 children in fancy dress (costume). Portrait was taken indoors. "For Mrs. Mara" is written in pencil on the verso.

Group portrait on military ship

Item consists of one photograph of 27 unidentified men in uniform posed on the deck of a military ship. Several are wearing sweaters stating "Fishery Service." At least two houses can been seen along the treed coastline in the background.

Portrait of men's cricket team

Item consists of one photograph of 12 unidentified men in matching dark blazers over white shirts, trousers, and scarves. Blazer emblems are illegible. The man laying in the foreground is wearing cricket pads and a hat. Illegible signatures have been added on or above each man using black ink. The men are posed outdoors in front of a canvas tent or structure.

Conference delegates

Item consists of one photograph of 19 unidentified men posed in front of a stone building. "BC [General] Conf delegates" is written on the verso in pencil. Additional writing is illegible.

Portrait album

File consists of one album containing 13 black and white portrait photographs of children, dogs, a group of picnickers, a man, and two images of Hannah Maynard. The front page is embossed with "Albert H. Maynard Victoria B.C." and "$1.00" has been handwritten on the front end page. The album has a dark blue leather cover with a tab that wraps from the back to tuck into a strap on the front to create an enclosure.

The first image is of a typed poem: "Yes, this is my album, But learn ere you look, That all are expected To add to my book. You are welcome to quiz it The penalty is, That you add your own portrait For others to Quiz."

The portrait photographs are taken by Hannah Maynard and other professional photographers.
