The Royal Commission on Education was initiated on 14 March 1987 "to inquire into and report on education in the Province from kindergarten through grade 12." Barry M. Sullivan, Q.C. was appointed commissioner. He worked with an administrative staff of 12 and 17 commissioned researchers to gather information, analyze it and produce several published reports. GR-1917 contains written submissions, taped public hearings, student interviews, clipping scrapbooks, research papers and some administrative files. Me and my family by Mildred Irene Seymour

The item is a copy of "Me and my family", reminiscences of childhood and adult life in Victoria, Vancouver and the Gulf Islands by Mildred Irene Seymour, a Sidney teacher. Mrs. Seymour narrates many of her experiences as a teacher (teaching degree in Music) at Fanny Bay, Gabriola Island, Chemainus and Vancouver, describes her work with choirs and recounts her vacation travels through British Columbia, Canada and the western United States.

Reminiscences / Hannah Dorsey

The file consists of a photocopy of the reminiscences of Hannah Dorsey. Mrs. Dorsey was born in North Sidney, N.S., grew up in North Vancouver and Bella Coola, attended Normal School, and taught at Port Simpson, B.C., before accepting a private teaching post in the Chilcotin. She married Lester Dorsey, a Chilcotin rancher and guide in 1934. The reminiscences mainly describe ranch life and work and various pack trips.

Series consists of the minutes books of various meetings of the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association (and its predecessors) 1914-1977 (these meeting can include Executive Committee Meetings, General or Regular Meetings, Annual General Meetings, Staff Representative Meetings, Emergency Meetings, Proportional Representative Meetings, Open Meetings, Extraordinary General Meetings, Special Executive Meetings, Table Officers Meetings and reports of meetings with other bodies e.g. Vancouver School Teachers' Association, British Columbia Teachers' Federation etc.); and accounts books (receipts and expenditure) 1926-1970.

Also included are the minutes of the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association Salary Indemnity Fund Committee 1947-1962, a report of proceedings of the Vancouver Teacher's Association and Parent Teachers' Association meeting held on 10 January 1922 for the purpose of hearing statements of policy from candidates elect for Mayor and School Trustees, a report of the joint Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association/Vancouver School Teachers' Association General Salary Meeting held September, 1972 and the lease between the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association and the British Columbia Teachers' Federation dated July, 1957.
