On the back of the painting is written Flicker(?), but the bird has been correctly identified by Natural History curators at the Royal BC Museum as a Northern Flicker.

The painting has been incorrectly titled as a Grosbeak by Winifred Williams. Also on the back of the painting is a note written on December 7, 1993 stating that Florence Dickson said this was a Sparrow Hawk or Kestrel. It has been correctly identified as an American Kestrel by Natural History curators at the Royal BC Museum.
