SUMMARY: "Between Ourselves" was a weekly series of hour-long radio programs that presented Canada to Canadians. It featured aspects of Canadian life in docudramas, plays, music, and interviews, originating fr;om different regions of Canada. The series ran from 1966 to 1979. The first part of this fifty-minute program is devoted to reminiscences of Emily Carr by three of her long-time friends: Flora Hamilto;n Burns, who helped Carr with her writing; Kate Mather, who was a buyer for the CPR at Banff and commissioned Carr to make pottery; and Edythe Hembroff-Schleicher, whose book "M.E." recalls the elderl;y Emily Carr. The second part of the program features "The Pines of Emily Carr", a work for narrator, mezzo-soprano, piano, string quartet and tympani, which was composed by Jean Coulthard for the 196;9 CBC Vancouver Festival of Music. The performers involved include: Dorothy Davies, narrator; Derek Bampton, piano; Phyllis Mailing, mezzo-soprano; and Don Adams, tympani.;

This episode features two items inspired by Emily Carr. Part 1: Recollections by three women who knew Carr -- Kate Mather, Edythe Hembroff-Schleicher, and Flora Hamilton Burns. Part 2: A performance of Jean Coulthard's composition "The Pines of Emily Carr" for narrator (mezzo soprano) and small chamber ensemble.

This unit consists of 7 printed books and one bank note.
Two of the books were presents from Emily Carr to Flora Hamilton Burns, and the other five were given to Burns by Alice Carr in 1947. The only book with annotations other than the inscription is book number seven, which does contain some underlining.
The bank note was countersigned by Flora Hamilton Burn's father, Gavin H. Burns, who was the manager of the Bank of British North America in Victoria 1889-1901.

The fonds consists of research notes and essays on Emily Carr, personal correspondence (including letters from Emily Carr and Sophie Pemberton), family memorabilia and photographs. Fonds also includes books given to Flora Burns by Alice and Emily Carr.

The fonds consists of personal correspondence from the children of Andrew Onderdonk to K. Patricia Keir and her sister Flora Hamilton Burns, correspondence by or about Emily Carr and photographs.

The series consists of personal correspondence from Eva and Andy (children of Andrew Onderdonk) to K. Patricia Keir, her mother Flora Burns and her sister, Flora A. Hamilton Burns, written between 1924 and 1975. It also consists of four photographs: one of Eva Onderdonk; two of E. W. McMullen and one of Dr. John Duncan's Chinese servant with three dogs.
