Series consists of records of the Coquitlam Watershed pipeline inquiry, which was established under the Inquiry Act by Order in Council 759/1989. Douglas L. MacKay, former Greater Vancouver Water District Commissioner and Chief Engineer, was appointed sole commissioner. The commission was tasked with examining and making recommendations on all matters associated with the application by Pacific Coast Energy Corporation (PCEC) for the routing, construction, and operation of the Vancouver Island Natural Gas Pipeline through the Coquitlam Watershed and possible alternatives to this route. Six pipeline routes were compared for length, environmental impact, construction requirements, and cost. Public hearings were held in Burnaby from 22 June to 24 July 1989. The commission’s final report was submitted on 31 July 1989.
Records are arranged within the following sub-sections: information submissions from PCEC, the Greater Vancouver Water District (GVWD)/Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD), and the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC); contractor files; administrative files; research, reports, and studies; transcripts of proceedings; exhibits; petitions and background materials; and the final report. The records were scheduled for selected retention under Commission of Inquiry Records (schedule 112907).
