The file consists of two letters written by Thomas New, on board the ship Daedalus, to his sister, Rebecca Coxen in Kent. The first letter is dated September 16, 1792, on board the Daedalus at Friendly Cove, Nootka Sound. The second letter is dated December 16, 1793, on board the Daedalus at sea. The Daedalus formed part of the Vancouver Expedition.

The first letter, from Nootka Sound, recounts a story of a Spanish boy found murdered on shore, surveying land, and encounters with Indigenous people. The second letter is incomplete, but appears to discuss sailing to Australia, including Sydney, Port Jacks, Lord Howe Island. The letter discusses taking convicts onboard from Australia as well as an Aboriginal man.

The file consists of documentation prepared by the Delegation of Allied Indian Tribes of British Columbia (also referred to as Allied Tribes of British Columbia) and presented to various Government of Canada bodies and individuals, including acting Prime Minister Foster, the Special Committee of the House of Commons considering Bill 14, the Senate Committee, as well as the press. The Delegation representing the Allied Indian Tribes of British Columbia in Ottawa was comprised of Peter Calder of the Nisga'a [Nishga] Tribe, George Matheson of the Tsimshian [Tsimpshean] Tribe, Peter R. Kelly of the Haida Tribe, and Chief Basil David of the Shuswap Tribe, and accompanied by Special Agent J.A. Teit.

The contents of the file provide a response to Bills 13 and 14 (proposed amendments to the Indian Act), and deal largely with land and settlement issues following the McKenna-McBride Royal Commission on Indian Affairs for the Province of British Columbia, 1913-1916 (Bill 13), and enfranchisement (Bill 14). Documents in the file also provide a brief history of the formation of the Allied Indian Tribes of British Columbia.

The file consists primarily of carbon copies of submitted correspondence, however there are also some handwritten notes and 109 cards which include an individual's name and their role (typically either chief of delegate of a tribe).

The file consists of the memorandum of association and articles of association for the Phoenix Coal and Lumber Company Limited, 1866. The memorandum sets out the objects of the company and lists the subscribers.

87 pre-printed tickets in English and Chinese, with name of passengers, age, occupation and native place filled out in English. The tickets also have the name of the passenger written in Chinese. Some of the ticket holders were children. Folder 1 also contains undated hand-written notes which describe the conditions on the voyage re food and space allotted, and state that they were in contravention of the Chinese Passengers Act of 1855. Two Chinese names are listed on the note: A. Quang and Quang Ling.

Account book containing entries about loans, insurance, exchanges of gold dust and "gold eggs". The keeper of the accounts was acting as an agent and banker for Chinese who wished to send remittances back to China.

Early history of Ocean Falls.

The file consists of two letters, February 20, 1963, and March 7, 1963, from Carol Pearson, King City, Ontario to Agnes Wilke in Sidney, B.C. The letters described Pearson's life, Emily Carr, and pets, particularly dogs and monkeys.

The file also contains three photographs; two snapshots of Emily Carr and her dogs, ca. 1933, and one snapshot of Carol Pearson on a horse, October 1951.

The album consists of 65 pages, which contain 58 b&w photographs from various creators, and 5 engravings. The photographs primarily depict scenery throughout British Columbia, as well as some photographs of First Nations people and villages. Many of the photographs appear to have been taken by George Mercer Dawson during Geological Survey of Canada expeditions (1878 and 1879), and are complemented by the Survey reports. However, there are also some photographs by Frederick Dally and by Richard Maynard. When known, the photographers and any identifying information are provided (see the attached list of photographs). Many of the unidentified photographs may be Geological Survey of Canada photographs by Dawson as several are numbered in a similar way.

The file consists of a small homemade commemorative album containing 17 black and white photographs. The album was made to mark a reception for Mr. and Mrs. Gomer P. Jones given by the the staff of the Hedley Gold Mining Co. on September 20, 1915. The occasion was the 50th birthday of Gomer P. Jones and the reception was held at Hedley, B.C.

The album contains a photograph of Mr. and Mrs. Jones and one of Jones and his son, Gomer P. Jones Jr. There are also 15 photographs of the company staff.

The file consists a transcript copy of a letter from Thomas A. Farmham, dated January 4, 1840 at Oahu Sandwich Islands (Hawaii), to J.R. Poinsett, the Secretary of War in Washington. In it Farnham gives detailed information of the activities of the Hudson's Bay Company in Oregon Territory (present day Oregon and Washington). The letter is accompanied by a certificate issued by the Department of State on July 12, 1898, certifying that it is a true copy of a document from the files of the Department of State.

The files consists of a copy of a portion of Daniel Williams Harmon's journal. It covers the period 1807 to 1809, during which time Harmon left Sturgeon Lake Fort and Fort William to go to Fort Dunvegan.

The file is a photostat copy of a pre-printed British register of baptisms, used to record baptisms at Fort Vancouver, 1836-1838 and Fort Victoria, 1849-1859. The volume is 41 pages, pages 1-16 record baptisms at Fort Vancouver and pages 17-41 record baptisms at Fort Victoria.

The information collected in the register includes the date of baptism, the name of the child, parent's names, abode, quality, trade or profession and by whom the ceremony was performed.

The file consists of a typescript extract or table (source unknown) of baptisms solemnized in the Parish of Victoria between 1859 and 1886. The file is number from p. 42-179, presumably following on from the previous register. Information collected includes the date of baptism, name of child, parent's names, abode, quality, trade or profession and by whom the ceremony was performed.

The file is a photocopy of a photostat copy of a pre-printed British register of marriages, used to record marriages at Fort Vancouver, 1837-1838 and 1848-1849 and Fort Victoria, 1849-1859. It also contains 1 page of marriages recorded at Fort Langley in 1851. The volume is 19 pages and contains 57 numbered entries. Pages 1-6 record marriages at Fort Vancouver and the Columbia River; page 9 records marriages at Fort Langley and pages 7-8 and 10-19 record marriages at Fort Victoria.

It records marriages at Fort Vancouver and the Columbia River, 1837-1838 and 1848-1849 and Fort Victoria, 1849-1859. It also contains marriages recorded at Fort Langley in 1851. The transcript contains 63 numbered entries, and whether the marriage was authorized by banns or license.

The file is a typescript copy of extracted entries of burials in the Parish of Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria. The entries are arranged by original page number (12 to 83) and follow directly on from the register in folder 6 with entries 89 to 664.

File consists of one album, which contains 98 graphic works (lithographs, drawings, watercolours, and one photograph). Affixed plates at the front of the album identify the contents as "The St. Helena Collection, 1826" and "The India Collection, 1858."

File consists of one hardcover sketchbook containing 65 artworks (primarily graphite sketches and one painting) by Max Singleton Maynard. The sketches have been described at the item level and each sketch has been assigned a unique PDP number. In addition to these, there are also sketches on the inside of the front and back covers. The sketch on the inside of the front cover is attached at the file description for the sketchbook. A page has been ripped out between PDP04317 and PDP04318; this page contains partial sketches on the recto and verso. A page has been ripped out between PDP04365 and PDP 04366 but contains no sketches.

Item consists of one album containing 41 diagram-style sketches in crayon and ink created by David Henry Norcross. Norcross was born in Granite Siding (or Granite) near Nelson, BC, and began his mining career at age 16. The drawings document his memories and history of mining and mining technology in British Columbia, particularly within the Kootenay district.

The file consists of three photographs of the V-J Day parade in Victoria B.C. on August 15, 1945. One photograph shows the Victoria Girls' Drill Team, another shows the Chinese float, and another shows several female Chinese-Canadian participants.

The file consists of three black and white photographs of the 2nd Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles, taken at Willows camp, Victoria, in 1915, likely photographed by Ernest Crocker. The photographs consist of large group portrait of the battalion and two postcards. One postcard shows the battalion on parade at Willows Camp. Another is a group photograph of soldiers performing camp duties.

File consists of two photographs at least one of which was taken by Hannah Maynard for her photography business in Victoria. This image is a group photograph of sailors, possibly the gun room officers of a Royal Navy ship docked at Esquimalt. The names of the sailors are listed on the verso.
The other photograph is of a family in front of a house. Possibly Hannah and Richard Maynard seated in a garden with a young man (their son Albert Hatherley Maynard?) behind them. Two women, a man (Harry Maynard?), three children, and a dog, are positioned in a stairway nearby.
