Civil case files from 1890-1902; 1906; 1912-1942 with the exception of probate/estate files (GR-1959) and Judge's Criminal Court files (GR-1960) which are filed separately. Appeals of Magistrate's convictions are included. There are a few files from Lytton, 1893-1896.

Criminal case files.

The series consists of preliminary hearing and speedy trial files created by the Cariboo Magistrate between 1909 and 1925. Records in each file may include information and complaint forms, depositions, warrants, statements of witnesses and accused and other material relating to the case.

Most of the files are for criminal cases and cover the following offences: theft, assault, forgery, burglary, carnal knowledge, fighting and bestiality.

The series consists of one volume of the Supreme Court criminal case calendar. The records typically provide the name of the prisoner(s), the court date, name of the judge, plea, verdict, sentence and date of verdict and sentencing.

The series consists of 1 volume of grants of letters probate created in the Supreme and County Courts at Barkerville between 1941 and 1949. Forms typically include name and residence of deceased and the name of the executor(s). Records from County and Supreme Courts are bound in the same volume.

Records in this series are arranged chronologically.

Probate/estate files.

The series consists of cause books created by the Quesnel Supreme Court between 1915 and 1977. While the records are largely civil in nature, the cause book for the period 1973 to 1977 also includes some criminal charges. The series also consists of indexes arranged alphabetically by surname. Each cause book entry includes the case number, the style of cause, solicitors' names, the nature of the charges, and a list of the proceedings. Cause books are often the first step in Supreme Court research and can often be used to locate court orders.

Naturalization record book.

The series consists of Mechanics' Liens and Woodmen's Liens from 1913-1915, 1920-1921, 1923-1926, 1931, 1933-1935, 1938, 1940-1953, 1942, 1945, 1953-1956. The register covering 1940-1953 includes an index.

The series consists of Kamloops Supreme Court civil case files from 1868 to 1949 as well as several County Court files that appear to have become interfiled at some point of the records's history. Files before 1914 have a Clinton or Yale Registry stamp even though the hearing seems to have been in Kamloops. Records in accession G88-103 were transferred separately, and include a notice of sheriff's sale from Prince Rupert, an assortment of loose law stamps, correspondence regarding cases, and oaths of allegiance for Norman Bole of New Westminster and William Ward Spinks of Kamloops. It is unclear how some of the ephemera came to be included with these records.

The series consists of 8 balance sheets covering the period May to December 1867 for the post office at Quesnelmouth, later known as Quesnel. The forms were signed by Frank Trevor, the local postmaster, and were forwarded for examination to A.T. Bushby, who was at that time acting postmaster in New Westminster. The forms show a variety of post office expenses, including stamps, registered letters, and newspapers.

The records were originally found in an accession of assorted colonial-era Cariboo records, including pre-emptions, gold commissioner files, partnership agreements and voters lists. The records were removed from this accession and later re-accessioned.

The fonds consists of correspondence, diaries (1857-1910), letterbook, addresses to, autobiography, sermon and lecture notes of Reverend Ebenezer Robson. Includes extensive correspondence inward (see finding aid for names of correspondents).

Miscellaneous court documents, civil and criminal, at all court levels. Includes summonses, exhibits, warrants, orders, affidavits and sheriff forms, from Barkerville, Quesnel, Soda Creek, Richfield and Lytton.

This series contains the following notes of proceedings: "Chief Justice Needham's record of Special Cariboo Circuit - Canada Co. v Grouse Flume Co. and other cases". This handwritten volume contains notes from September 16, 1867 to October 4, 1867.

This series consists of records of the Land Inspector and Government Agent, Prince George, relating to government land reserves in Cariboo, Cassiar, Range 4 and Range 5 Land Districts. Correspondence, memoranda, plans, and reports concerning recreation, highway, B.C. Forest Service, railway, school and power line reserves.

Mineral Claims Mortgage Register, 2 vols. This register is a record of mortgages held on mineral claims, of construction and work agreements, and of various indentures relating to mines at Antler Creek, Grouse Creek, Canadian Creek, Lowhee Creek, Jack of Clubs Creek, Stevens Creek, French Creek, Beggs Gulch, Valley Creek and Mosquito Creek. Volume 2 consists of an alphabetical index.

This series contains a record book of land examinations and miscellaneous applications, Cariboo district. Includes pre-emption cancellations (1922-1924), pre-emption examinations and inspections (1922-1925), record of application for certificates of improvement (1921-1924), applications to lease pending examination (1919-1924), applications to purchase pending examination (1919-1924), and lease cancellations (1922).

Two record books containing brand registers for Kamloops and Clinton districts 1873-1914, as well as water records for Clinton district 1877-1879. The Kamloops volume also includes collectorate records from the Gold Commissioner at Yale for 1861. The index for the Clinton volume is in GR-1487, box 2, file 1. Also included are 6 volumes of office diaries, 1948, 1951-1953, 1955-1956, used by Thomas Moore, Recorder of brands.

The series consists of a report and a tour outline prepared for the Parks Branch by Virginia Careless in 1978:
"Report on interim research project: Socio-Cultural Aspects B.C. Roadhouses" and "Outline for Tour of Cottonwood House".

This series include a summary of pre-emption records cancelled in the Barkerville Assessment District. The series contains one volume of a register that contains the name and number of the pre-emption record, the lot number and acreage, and the date and cause of cancellation.

Bench book of civil and criminal cases heard by Justice H.P.P. Crease on circuit at Yale, Clinton and Richfield, 1871.

This series contains records relating to pre-emptions in the Cariboo, Lillooet, Lytton and Kootenay Districts recorded by various Gold Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners of Lands and Works. The records consist of correspondence, notices of claim, sketches and affidavits and pertains largely to records in the vicinities of Quesnel, Alexandria, Williams Lake, Lytton and Cache Creek. The series also includes a detailed account of town lot sales at Quesnellemouth held on 13 October 1863 as well as an application for wages due, correspondence on various land disputes, several water records, and proposed leases of government reserves.

This series contains the Commissioner of Grazing's file carbon copies of free grazing permits issued in the Vernon and Cariboo Grazing Districts as well as a letter transmitting grazing fees (form) from the Kamloops Grazing District. The boundaries of grazing districts coincide with those of the forest districts of the same name.

This series consists of 24 volumes of plaint and procedure books from sittings at Richfield, Williams Lake, Soda Creek, Barkerville, Quesnel, Ashcroft, and 150 Mile House, 1862-1910; cash book, 1862-1883; sheriff's fee book, 1864-1865; bench books, 1864-1867; and Gold Commissioner's Court case books, 1864-1893. Note that a single volume may have been used for multiple purposes.

This series consists of plaint and procedure books for the County Court held at Lillooet, 1861-1977. Also includes record book from Magistrate's Court at Lillooet, 1893-1902; and proceedings of Small Debts Court, Lillooet, 1893-1902. The plaint and procedure books cover primarily civil cases, as well as naturalization records up to 1953, appeals, mechanic’s liens, woodmen's liens, and some criminal cases. The last two volumes include some probate/estate administration cases.

This series contains circular letters from District Forester to field staff pertaining to forest protection, forest management, etc. It includes some circular letters from the Chief Forester to District Foresters.

This series consists of dossiers of photocopied historical material for theatrical application, including: 1. Barkerville, the Cariboo Gold Rush; 2, Fort Steele, the Kootenay Gold Rush; 3. Fort Steele, East Kootenay in the 1880's; 4. Fort Steele, East Kootenay, 1890-1905.
