Item consists of one tableau vivant work by Hannah Maynard, part of a series of tableau vivant works created in the 1890s. The composite work is composed of several photographs merged together to form a single work using the techniques of double or multiple exposures. The image features three Hannah Maynards in several poses (two pouring tea) in a domestic Victorian parlor scene. The studio flooring (rose pattern), fur rug and artificial backdrop attributed to Mrs. R. Maynards Photographic Gallery are visible. This negative does not appear to have been manipulated. The visual information at the bottom edge of the photograph appears to be blocked or cut off.

The composite work is composed of several photographs merged together to form a single work using the techniques of double or multiple exposures. The image features four Hannah Maynards in several poses (two having tea, one holding a skein of woven material and one taking it up into a ball) in a domestic Victorian parlor scene. A (deceased) Maynard family member is visible, as a studio portrait on the front of the cushion cover under the table. The negative appears to have been manipulated. There are touch ups in [pencil] on the negative plate in the regions depicting the faces of Hannah Maynard, adding to the enhancement of the final image and reduction of facial wrinkles. The studio flooring, curtains, natural lighting, screens, furniture, textiles and plain backdrop attributed to Mrs. R. Maynards Photographic Gallery are visible.

Hesquiaht men, Victoria

Item consists of a photograph of 10 Hesquiaht (Hesquiot, Nuu-chah-nulth). A different version of this photograph (PN05033b) includes the following information: "Photo taken on Douglas St. Victoria, B.C. 1875 by R. Maynard. These Indians of Hesquiot, saved and brought to Victoria [by] the crew of the Barque 'Edwin'. Matlehaw, the chief was presented with a medal. He later show the Rev. Father Brabant on 28 October 1875 and two weeks later was found in the woods having died from smallpox. AHM [Albert Maynard]"

Hesquiaht women, Refuge Cove

Item consists of a photograph of Indigenous women at Refuge Cove (Hot Springs Cove). A different version of this photograph (PN02095) identifies the women as Hesquiat [Hesquiaht] First Nation. One woman, the second from the left, is identified as the mother of Mrs. Lucas of Port Alberni.

H.M.S. Triumph in Esquimalt

Item consists of one photograph of the H.M.S. Triumph in Esquimalt. It was probably taken by Hannah Maynard in October 1885 when the Governor-General visited the flagship.
