Allan D. Taylor film collection

The collection consists of video copies of 36 film items from the Allan D. Taylor collection held by Library and Archives Canada. These selected items (mainly newsreel footage and out-takes) depict British Columbia events, leisure activities, scenery and cityscapes in Victoria and Vancouver, on Vancouver Island, or in the Interior (for example, Kamloops and Lillooet), during the period 1907-1931. Several items filmed during World War One show events related to the war, including the departures of various military units for the conflict. The collection includes at least one item fillmed by Vancouver filmmaker A.D. "Cowboy" Kean, and a few others that are attributed to him.

This series consists of Appraisal Reports of reverted government lands for the Lillooet Land District, 1932. The reports are arranged numerically by report number. Information may include assessment district registry office, legal description, land plan number, acreage, date of forfeiture, soil, water suitability, improvements, accessibility, supply, irrigation or dyking, nearest settlement or Post Office, nearest school, topography, and assessed and appraised value. The report usually contains a sketch map of the property, and this volume contains a sketch map of Lillooet townsite plus the lots across the Fraser River. The volume is indexed by report numbers to the legal land description.

The item is a film reel of out-takes from ca. 1943-1945. Comprises out-footage from completed BC Government Travel Bureau films: "Kootenay East, Kootenay West", "Of mines and men" and "Rails to romance". Includes people at cairn; various shots of scenery and recreational activities; footage of the steamship "Lady Alexandra" departing Vancouver, arriving at Bowen Island (with scenes on the island), and arriving at Squamish; plus shot(s) of Lillooet.

Catherine Christy interview

RECORDED: [location unknown], 1965-10-27 SUMMARY: TRACK 1: Mrs. Catherine Christy remembers her life at Big Bar. Mrs. Christy's father, Robert Chisholm, came to Big Bar in the early 1880s. She speaks about her life on the farm; a typical day when she was a child; cattle ranching; her mother, Catherine Dickey; and life as a single mother. She also discusses illness; sheep; the Chinese; other people in the area; and farmers at Big Bar. TRACK 2: Mrs. Christy discusses her maternal grandfather, James Dickey; and her mother. She then describes marketing turkeys, and more about life on the farm. The town of Lillooet is described circa 1910. She also discusses fruit farming; the Texas Creek area; and stories about the Big Bar area. The interview ends with a description of ranch life before 1920.

Correspondence and contracts for public works projects

The series consists of correspondence and contracts between Surveyor General W.S. Gore, on behalf of the Chief Commissioner of Lands and Works, with various contractors regarding three public works projects. The projects are the building of the Victoria Law Courts, correspondence and contracts from February to June 1887; Kamloops bridge, correspondence and contracts from March 1887 to February 1888; and Lillooet Bridge, correspondence and contracts from August 1887 to March 1888.

Hilda Haylmore interview

RECORDED: Lillooet (B.C.), 1981-09 SUMMARY: Mrs. Hilda Haylmore, nee Mason, tells of her grandparents, who came to the coast in 1861. Her grandfather travelled by horseback from the Fraser Valley to Vernon. Mr. Haylmore travelled over much of the United States and Canada on foot, before marrying and settling in the Lillooet area.

This series consists of land records from the Colony of British Columbia Lands and Works Department, 1858-1863. Most records are related to the sale of town lots at Langley, 1858-1859, and New Westminster, 1860-1862, including records of exchanges of lots at Langley for lots at New Westminster. The series also include various other land records related to New Westminster, Douglas, Hope, Yale, Lytton and Lillooet, including pre-emptions, lot registers, accounts for sales of town and suburban lots, and lists of deeds issued.
