The collection consists of oral history interviews with Cumberland residents pertaining to coal mining and community life in Cumberland and area.
The collection contains two sets of audio recordings. The first set, T4260:0001-0023, are audio reel recordings entitled "Cumberland History Project" and are a collection of oral history interviews recorded by students of Cumberland Intermediate School in 1974 and 1975. The focus of the interviews is early Cumberland and the local coal mining industry. The second set, T4260:0024-0026 are three cassette tapes recorded from 1979 to 1985 by Cumberland Museum curator, Dale Reeves, and researchers Sandra Clarke and Dale Lovick. These tapes are also oral history interviews about the Cumberland area and the coal mining industry.

Chinese women and work in B.C. collection

The collection consists of oral history interviews with Chinese women about their experiences working in British Columbia from the 1920s to the 1950s. The interviews, with nine first-, second- or third-generation Chinese-Canadian women, were recorded in Vancouver, Victoria and New Westminster during the first half of 1984. The project focused on "women's work" (whether paid or unpaid), including work in the home and in family businesses. The interviews discuss the kind of work these women did; what they experienced; how they perceived their roles in the family and the Chinese community; and the legislative policies which affected their work and their lives. The interviewees are to remain anonymous, and should be referred to only by the assigned pseudonyms. In addition, two of the interviews are closed to public access.

Behind the Kitchen Door project oral history collection

In 1983 and 1984, the History Division of the National Museum of Man sponsored "Behind the Kitchen Door", an oral history project documenting the day-to-day experiences of British Columbia women in their households during the years 1900-1930. The project was administered through the Modern History Division of the British Columbia Provincial Museum.

The collection consists of 64 Interviews on 71 audio reels with Victoria and Vancouver area women. The focus is the otherwise undocumented day-to-day activities of maintaining and running a home in B.C. The interviews were conducted by Kathryn Thomson, Lynn Bueckert, Kathy Chopik and Catherine Hagen.

Miners' lives oral history project collection

The collection consists of records generated by Donald (interviewer) and Glen Treilhard (photographer) during their oral history project in 1983. Both were post-secondary students at the time and received grants from the Canada Council and the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. The Treilhards interviewed and photographed 39 Canadian miners in British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories. The collection includes 60 audio cassette tapes of interviews with the miners, a duo tang with project details, an index, an itinerary and interviewee list, photo and tape release forms from the interviewees and transcripts of the interviews. Audio tapes are arranged by geographical location and by date. There is also a small notebook listing the slides which are itemized by geographical location, roll number, slide number and subject. There are approximately 820 colour slides of the interviewees, their places of work and scenic views of the geographical regions through which the Treilhards travelled. There appear to be some slides listed in the index that are not in the slide binders, as well as some slides that are in the binders and that are not listed in the index. There is also a list stapled to the inside cover of the small notebook indicating which slides the Treilhards used in their project.

Jack Webster radio broadcast collection

The collection consists primarily of radio broadcasts for 1977-1978, representing the period before Webster switched to broadcast television for his current affairs talk show. These broadcasts were recorded at both his Vancouver and his Victoria studio (Room 178 of the Empress Hotel). Also included are five (5) audio reels relating to interviews with Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau in 1972.

Also included are the original CJOR Webster Program log books for 1977-1978 and a small number of photos of Jack Webster and selected interviewees taken during these interviews.

The collection comprises audio recordings of interviews, news conferences, press events, election campaigns, speeches, and other activities related to provincial politics in British Columbia, recorded and compiled by BC Radio News, mainly between 1975 and 1981. Many of these recordings feature New Democratic Party leader David Barrett or Social Credit Party leader (and Premier) Bill Bennett. In addition, there are recordings of Bennett's key cabinet colleagues, as well as MLAs from both sides of the legislature.
