Series consists of several volumes of letters of administration and letters probate from the Ashcroft Supreme Court. The records were created between 1909 and 1959. In many cases, wills are annexed to records in container 830496-0001 of this series.

Series consists of Ashcroft Supreme Court probate/estate files for 1907-1997.

Series consists of wills from the Supreme Court at Ashcroft. Wills are arranged by file number and date from 1986-1997. This number is the same as the file number in GR-1952 (Ashcroft probate/estate files). Not all individuals listed in the probate file list have an accompanying will.

Series consists of civil orders and reasons for judgement from the Supreme Court, County Court, and Small Claims Court in Ashcroft. The series includes divorce records interfiled with other court orders. Records from the various level of court are interfiled. The series includes a small number of records that were originally filed at the Kamloops registry before being transferred to Ashcroft.

Series consists of original decrees nisi, decrees absolute, and divorce orders created between 1950-1958 and 1971-1997 by the Ashcroft Supreme Court registry. Between 1968 and 1985, a judgement by way of decree nisi required a three-month waiting period before a judgement by way of decree absolute could be applied for. During this time, a divorce was not legally in effect without a decree absolute. After 1985, divorce orders automatically came into effect 31 days after the divorce was granted, barring an appeal.

Decrees nisi and decrees absolute are filed together and arranged by case number, not by volume and folio or by date. This means that records of varying dates are interfiled. From 1950-1978, case file numbers were assigned chronologically and include the year a divorce was initiated. For example, no. 1/71 was the first divorce initiated in 1971, no. 1/72 was the first divorce of 1972, and so on. Starting in 1979, case file numbers continued sequentially across years from no. 14 in 1979 to no. 82 in 1997. The records were scheduled for full retention under Court Services ORCS (schedule 100152) 51440-25.

Series consists of volume 2 of Ashcroft Supreme Court’s cause books. The volume covers cases 5/1917 to 3/1934 and includes information on divorces, probates and estate administration, adoption orders, and other civil cases. The volume also includes an alphabetical index.

Probate/estate files.

The series consists of a volume probably created by the Government Agent in Ashcroft on behalf of the Dept. of Lands and Works. The volume contains a list of lands to be sold in October 1902 for non-payment of taxes and includes the name of the party assessed, the description of the land, the amount due, to whom sold and the signature of the new purchaser.

The series consists of three record books from Ashcroft police lock-up, 1901-1910.

The series consists of Magistrate's record books for Ashcroft and including Spences Bridge cases, from 1949 to 1963. The magistrate noted lists and statistics in the back of the volumes.

The series consists of record books created by the Ashcroft Police Court from 1911 to 1922 and 1948 to 1961.

This series consists of land and mineral tax records related to the Nicola, Merritt and Ashcroft area from 1900-1952. The records were likely created by the Government Agents working in those locations, who acted as Tax Assessors and Collectors.. There is also one record of water rights for the Nicola and Yale area and one register of water licence applications. The majority of records relate to the sale of mineral claims or land as a result of the failure to pay taxes.

Records include tax sale deeds of land, various tax sale of land forms, tax sale certificates, redemption receipts, tax sale papers, and some correspondence. There are also related tax related records from the Court of Appeal and Court of Revision. These record the appellant, date, description of property, reason for appeal, evidence heard and decision.

Register of bills of sale, 1873-1912 (case nos. 1-856). This register is primarily for Clinton, but also includes bills of sale from Williams Lake, Canoe Creek, and Ashcroft. Copies of orders-in-council relating to the administration of bills of sale are also included. An alphabetical index to the names of grantors listed in this volume is tucked into the front cover. An alphabetical index to the names of grantees was later discovered in a different accession and is available in 002340-1022.

The series also consists of several type-written pages of bills of sale and chattel mortgages dating from 1914 to 1922. The 1914-1922 records were originally transferred with registers of bills of sale from Kamloops, but were not found to match the Kamloops records. The case numbers run from 1047 to 1598 and cover bills of sale from Ashcroft, Upper Hat Creek, Clinton, Lillooet and Lytton. A comparison between many of the grantor and grantee names in the 1912 and 1914 records suggests that both sets of records belong to the same series.

Series consists of one volume from the Small Debts Court dating from 30 April 1929 to 2 May 1942, as well as civil case files from 1963 and 1966. The 1929-1942 volume covers cases 1 through to 187.

This series consists of a variety of records created by Government Agents and other government officials stationed in the Lytton, Yale and Kamloops area from 1858-1949. The records include registrations of water rights (mostly for mining purposes); placer mining forms; mining record books recording mineral claims, placer claims, leases, records of abandonment and bills of sale; and an unlabeled cash book covering Cache Creek, Bonaparte, Okanagan, Tranquille, Dead Man’s Creek, Savona Ferry, Kamloops, and Nicola which records office expenditures and collectorates such as school taxes, property taxes, leases, road tolls, court fees, water records, licences, etc.

This series consists of crime reports and subject files related to the “C” division of the Provincial Police Department primarily from 1931-1950. The records may have been created by the Ashcroft office of the Yale District within the larger “C” division, as the majority of the records relate to the Ashcroft area. There are also some records that relate to locations in the Kamloops, Lillooet and Vernon Police Districts.

The majority of the records are reports recording details particular crimes reported to police. These records may be arranged alphabetically by the correspondent, under the name of the related legislation (ex. Juvenile Delinquents Act, Motor Vehicle Act, Indian Act, etc.), or by the type of crime (ex. Theft, murder, fraud, etc.). Other types of records include administrative files, personnel files, correspondence files, court records, crime statistics, evidence such as photographs and other subject files.

Indexes to crime reports for the years 1932 and 1945-1947 are located in container 913432-0890.

This series consists of three volumes of records of the Assistant Commissioner of Lands and Works, Yale District, relating to water rights. Volume 1 contains Irrigation Water Records for Yale and Ashcroft Water Districts, 1873-1885, Book No. 4. Volume 2 is an index to Water Records, 1859 to 1900, Books 1, 2, 3, 4. Volume 3 is a list of Water Records, Yale District, 1857-1906.

The series consists of a letterbook containing crime reports produced or collected by Sergeant John William Hooker during the course of his duties as a British Columbia Provincial Police (BCPP) officer while posted to Coquitlam, Grand Forks, Nelson, Smithers, Prince George, Clinton, Ashcroft, Spence’s Bridge, Merritt, and Kamloops between 1932 and 1944. The records cover a variety of crimes and social issues—particularly in small, rural communities. In addition to generic social issues, the records from Grand Forks (file 3) relate primarily to Doukhobors, and include reports on the settlement of Gilpin.

The majority of the reports were produced by Hooker. Some supplemental records (copies), such as an inquest, inward correspondence in relation to particular cases, and a reason for judgement are interfiled with the crime reports.

The records are arranged chronologically and by detachment location. The records do not capture all crime reports filed in a particular district, but were likely selected by Hooker. Some of these files have been labeled in pencil “Personal file.” The records consist primarily of crime reports on standard BCPP letterhead. Each report contains the district, detachment, and the date, as well as an overview of the case and persons involved.

Some of these records may also be available in GR-1388: Correspondence and other material created by the British Columbia Provincial Police Force of the Yale district. John William Hooker's personnel card, which provides details of the service of constables, including marital status, date of first appointment, station, and various postings, can be found in GR-0091, vol. 30-31.

This series contains Yale district Provincial Police files dating from 1941 to 1947. The records consist of subject files containing reports and correspondence inward and outward of district headquarters at Ashcroft with Bralorne, Bridge River, Lillooet, Spences Bridge, Clinton, Lytton and Ashcroft detachments, C division headquarters at Kamloops, and others.

The series consists of naturalization case files from the County Court of Ashcroft from 1960-1981. The series also includes other records related to naturalization, including carbon copies of applications for citizenship, as well documents related to citizenship presentations, citizenship registration and instructions on citizenship procedures at the Ashcroft Court Registry. Some files are from Kelowna.

The series consists of Ashcroft divorce case files from 1908 to 1945.

Series consists of several volumes of indexes and plaint and procedure books dating from approximately 1890 to 1975. Included in the series is an index for records in GR-1646. The index, which runs from 1890-1921, is divided into sections for first, second, third, and fourth books. It appears that the volume in GR-1646 is indexed as the fourth book. The whereabouts of the remaining "books" are unknown.

Volumes dating from 1936 onward include both the index and the record within the same ledger book. The 1921-1936 index volume includes one page at the back with a list of mechanics’ liens from 25 October 1930.

The series contains civil case files created by the Supreme Court at Ashcroft from 1908 to 1949. The files are arranged by folio number and year. Civil case files may contain the notice of claim or notice of petition, writs and affidavits; orders and a final judgment.

This series consists of a record book of cases heard at Savona's Ferry, Oct. 1884 - June 1885 and charge book from Ashcroft Gaol, Nov. 1884 - Sept. 1901.

The fonds consists of a minute book of the Independent Order of Good Templars, Ashcroft Lodge No. 25.

The series consists of correspondence sent to Sgt. J. Hooker of the Ashcroft detachment of the BC Provincial Police. The series also consists of copies of Sgt. Hooker’s outward correspondence. The correspondence dates from October and November 1943 and concerns the movements of individual Japanese Canadians across the province. The correspondence also includes travel permits for specific individuals detailing their registration number, their place of departure and arrival, the means by which they were to travel and the purpose of their trip. Correspondence was sent by both the RCMP and the British Columbia Security Commission. The series documents the travel of registered Japanese Canadians for both personal and work purposes.

The records are housed in their original folder, which is entitled 93A Japanese Permits. No custodial history or provenance is available for the records, and the folder was in a box that had been accessioned as “miscellaneous court records.”

The series consists of daily record books created between February and 1930 and June 1933 by the British Columbia Provincial Police stationed at Ashcroft. There are four volumes and the contents include complaints, details of patrols, investigations, arrests and other duties carried out by the Provincial Police at Ashcroft.
