Biographical history

Joseph Jackson was a prospector, miner and outfitter. In the 1930s, he prospected and mined in the Stikine, Liard and Cassiar regions of B.C. and in Alaska. In later years, he owned and operated the Lil-Joe Lodge at Coquihalla, B.C.

The fonds consists of correspondence, newspaper articles, an account book, assorted papers and photographs -- as well as Jackson's films, which include footage of activities in the Stikine and Liard regions in the 1930s and the Coquihalla district in the 1940s.

Immediate source of acquisition

The textual records and photographs were donated to the BC Archives in 1976 and 1979 by the Estate of Joseph J. Jackson (via the Government Agent, Merritt, BC). The films were donated in 1984 by Mr. Michael Jackson of Brookmere, B.C.
