Biographical history
Established March 28, 1945 when the Forest Branch of the Dept. of Lands became the Forest Service of the Dept. of Lands and Forests. The Forest Service retained its name when the Dept. of Lands and Forests became the Dept. of Lands, Forests and Water Resources in March 1962. On Dec. 23, 1975 the Forest Service was transferred to the newly created Dept. of Forests. Ceased to exist April 1979.

This series contains records from the Forest Service related to data management. It consists of a copy of Key to Forest Surveys Type Mapping, which sets out instructions for entering data for tabulation on Hollerith punch cards indicating forest cover on Forest survey maps.
