The item is a video copy of a travelogue made 1948-1949. It shows Osoyoos to Trail and Nelson by the Southern Trans-Provincial Highway. Footage includes: Cominco smelter; the sternwheeler "Minto" on the Arrow Lakes and at Castlegar; Kootenay River power station; lumbering scenes; car ferry on Kootenay Lake; and Nelson scenes (including the Curling Bonspiel parade).

In the mid-1940s, the BC Government Travel Bureau was working on a film with the working tiitle, "The Kootenays: British Columbia's mountain playground". The project was eventually released as two separate films, Kootenay East and Kootenay West.
