The Richmond Arts Centre oral history collection comprises two sets of tapes that were loaned to the Provincial Archives of British Columbia for copying in 1973 and 1976 respectively. The first set of tapes, recorded in 1972-1973, consists of 16 interviews; the second set, recorded in 1976, consists of 57 interviews. The originals are held by the City of Richmond Archives.

SUPPLIED TITLE OF TAPE(S): Lanky Mizuguchi RECORDED: Richmond (B.C.), 1976-01-13 SUMMARY: Lanky Mizuguchi started fishing in 1950 at age 25, his father was a fisherman and he fished on his father's boat. His brother (deceased) was also a fisherman. Few childhood friends became fishermen, some had higher education opportunities. Boats have gotten bigger. More electronic equipment. Boats never used to have radar and loran. The locality that the fleet in Steveston fished in has changed. The quality of fish has improved. Discrimination against Japanese fishermen was rooted in politics. Deckhands were paid by the month. Fishermens Hospital was run by the Steveston Japanese Fishermens' Association.
