This series consists of a variety of financial records created by the Cariboo Government Agent and its successors from 1860-1948. Records are related to locations throughout the Cariboo and Chilcotin region, including, Quesnel (Quesnelle Forks or Quesnelmouth), Lightening Creek, Barkerville and Richfield. Records include collectorate cash books, waste books, records of payments of pre-emptions, assay office expenses, a mineral tax register, liquor sale records, a Bank of British Columbia bank book, a company stock journal, a tax assessment book, handwritten notes and invoices, and a list of arms borrowed from the Government Agent at Quesnelmouth. There is also a record book documenting supplies, equipment, memoranda's, and some records from the Lightening Creek Gold Commissioner's Court.

Collectorate books record the collection of various fees by the government agent. Such as trade licences, liquor licences, marriage licences, pre-emption records, water records, mining records, fines such as “Indian fines”, deposits and rent.

The fonds consists of minutes and accounts of the company.

The item is a promotional poster printed on newsprint advertising gold nuggets from Lightning Creek. The nuggets are hand painted with gold paint.

The series consists of correspondence and reports created by the Dept. of Mines between 1909 and 1932 re Lightning Creek Gold Gravels and Drainage Company Ltd. and the activities of Charles Henry Unverzagt.

A promotional poster was transferred to the Visual Records Division and given the item number PDP09743.

The series consists of 23 photographs of Lightning Creek, and shows mining operations as well as general town views.

RECORDED: [location unknown], 1964-07-20 SUMMARY: TRACK 1: Mr. Russ E. MacDougall talks about gold mining and the Barkerville area, 1900 to 1940. Mr. MacDougall explains how he came to Barkerville in 1921. He discusses hydraulic mining, mining are as Barkerville area, Williams Creek and Lightning Creek, tunneling, claims, details of mining methods and comments on two old time miners, Bill Brown and Julius Powell. He comments about the population in the area, the names of mines and Barkerville.

TRACK 2: Mr. MacDougall talks about Barkerville; the people there, stories, his journey to Barkerville, transportation, road conditions, old timers in the area, ways of business, description of the stores, the old fashioned atmosphere, and social life in Barkerville.
