Biographical history
In 1978, the Prince George Forest District was renamed the Prince George Forest Region, however its boundaries remained the same. Between 1978 and 1981, the Region was reorganized to comprise of the following smaller Forest Districts: Dawson Creek-Chetwynd, Fort Nelson, Fort St. James, Mackenzie, McBride-Valemont, Prince George, Vanderhoof and Fort St. John. The names and precise boundaries of the Forest Districts changed over time.
In 2003, the Prince George Forest Region was amalgamated with Prince Rupert Forest Region to create the Northern Interior Forest Region.

Scope and content
This series consists of a list of sawmills, planer mills and barker-chippers organized by Ranger District until 1979 and by Forest District thereafter, compiled by the District forester/Regional Manager. Contains information as to name of mill or mill owner, address, physical location, type, i.e.: portable, stationary, farmer, planer in connection with saw mill, or equipped with gang saws, capacity per shift in cubic meters (mbm before metrication) and projected expansion. Compiled twice a year until 1955, annually thereafter.
