History
Darlene Marzari was born 6 July 1943 and served as Vancouver city alderman between 1972 and 1980. She later served as the MLA for the riding of Vancouver-Point Grey between 1986 and 1996. She served with the provincial New Democratic Party and was elected alongside Kim Campbell in the 1986 election. Marzari was re-elected in 1991 but did not run again in 1996 and was succeeded by Gordon Campbell.
Marzari served as the Minister of Tourism and the Minister Responsible for Culture under Premier Mike Harcourt between November 1991 and September 1993, before becoming the Minister of Municipal Affairs until February 1996.
In 2015, Marzari was made an honourary member of the Planning Institute of BC. She has also been involved with the Fraser Basin Council, Save our Parklands Association, and Big Sisters Society of BC.
Marzari was trained as a social worker and was hired as a social planner in 1968. At that time, she was tasked with relocating Vancouver families elsewhere in the region and rationalizing social services.
