Archivist’s Note: The date of the establishment of the County Court at Merritt has not yet been confirmed by BC Archives staff (as of March 2016). It is known that the registry existed in 1921. At that time, the British Columbia government established a Supreme Court registry at Merritt, effective May 11, 1921, and the registrar of the County Court at Merritt at the time was appointed registrar of the new Supreme Court registry.
All County Courts were merged into the Supreme Court on July 1, 1990.
Scope and content
The series consists of grants of letters of administration created by the County Court of Merritt, and County Court of Yale holden at Merritt between 1913 and 1978. Typical records include the name of the deceased and the date and place of death, as well as the name of the appointed administrator and their relationship to the deceased.
Some volumes may include letters of administration by the Official Administrator, wills annexed or succession duty forms annexed.
