Name of creator
Kleanthes John Metro (1868-1927) and Orsa Chungranes (1885-1964) were both born in Kymi, Greece and were married in Victoria in 1903. Kleanthes may have gone by the name Peter or Pete. Their children are: Leonidas (1905-1975), Sophia (1906-1909), Mary (1909-1989), Kelly [John?] (1908-1954), and George (1913-1991). Obituaries also list John, Vasgelle, and Lulu (possibly Loula Tuthill) as children. Orsa Metro also had two sisters that lived in California, named Mary Karachale and Katherine Lerik.
The records were donated to the BC Archives in 1974 by George Metro, son of Kleanthes and Orsa Metro.
Scope and content
Series consists of photographs of the Metro family. Four of the photographs are large portraits that have been hand-painted (see item level descriptions for more detail). The other six photographs are photographic prints mounted on cardstock. Three of the photographs are exterior and interior views of the Kleanthes Metro's restaurant, Maryland Oyster and Chop House, located at 85 Government Street in Victoria, and the other three photographs are family portraits, however the individuals cannot be identified in all photographs. One of the family portraits is taken by Richard Maynard and another is taken by Hannah Maynard.
