RECORDED: Shawnigan Lake (B.C.), 1980-11-25 SUMMARY: A talk by miner, logger and historian Jack Fleetwood of Cowichan Station, recorded at a meeting of the Shawnigan Lake Historical Society, 25-Nov-1980. After introducing his talk with comments about the gold rushes in California and B.C. (Fraser River, Cariboo, and Leechtown), Mr. Fleetwood talks about the 1865 finds at Koksilah, the Silver Mine at Stirling, and Glenapel; Robertson and Sons; iron ore at Maple Bay; the lost "silver" mine at Irvine; copper finds in 1892 at Colvins Mountain, and in 1898 at Bluebell, Mount Sicker, Tyee, and Lenora [?]; smelter at Osborne Bay; the Malahat Mining Company at Mt. Wood; Smith's Mountain, 1902-1907; King Solomon Mining Company and sawmill, 1913; the mystery tunnel of Leechtown; conclusion.
