Clarence B. Deaville family records

The collection consists largely of papers relating to Clarence B. Deaville's involvement with the Victoria City Temple, 1924-1932, and to the musical activities of his daughter, Phyllis. It contains correspondence, notes and menus re the emigration of Clarence, William and George Deaville from England to Victoria, 1898; a biographical article on Clarence Deaville from "Sunshine", 1915; rough minutes of the Buildings and Grounds Committee and a report of the Finance Committee, 1918, Victoria School Board; notes on the origin of the Victoria City Temple and correspondence and financial statements, 1924-1932; letters to Phyllis Deaville, many thanking her for musical performances, and mimeographed musical and theatrical programmes; the "Song of Foul Bay", by Arthur, Lord Davey, 1896, (memo 9p). Francis Grattan records

The file consists of correspondence inward (2 letters) pertaining to Francis Grattan's appointment to the Victoria Little Symphony Orchestra, and to the guest appearance of G. Huntley Green with the orchestra; music programmes of the Victoria Little Symphony Orchestra, and photocopies of photographs and newspaper clippings.

Hamilton Smith photographs

The series consists of photographs of the Smith family businesses and employees, their friends and homes, and places in Victoria between the mid-1870s and 1928. Most photographs were taken in Victoria, though M.R. Smith & Co. exhibition displays were likely taken at the New Westminster Fair over several years. The postcards are from places such as Tacoma, Washington and Nice, France.

Photographs were found within the collection and no original order was evident. They have been arranged according to themes by the BC Archives. Captions and titles were retained where available. See Item List for details.

Series consists of scrapbooks of clippings; a postcard album; an autograph album; two notebooks kept in connection with National Home Reading Union; a housekeeping book containing recipes; music scores of H.M.S. Pinafore for various instruments; a sketch book; notebook of the Eurydice Art Club; three school notebooks belonging to Dorothy McMicking; letters; one valentine card; birthday and Christmas cards; miscellaneous papers and a family bible. Also includes an oversized commemorative certificate presented to McMicking by Belgium, 1919.

It includes minutes of general meetings, executive and directors' meetings, secretary and treasurers' reports. Series also includes scrapbooks containing photographs, newspaper clippings, song sheets, and musical programmes, 1930-1966.
