Biographical history
Percy Francis Godenrath was born in Shanghai, China in October 1874. He lived in Victoria for a time working for the Board of Trade. In 1914 he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. In 1915, he reenlisted from New Brunswick, along with his wife Eva, who served as a nurse. Godenrath served overseas with various battalions including the Canadian Record Office in London and was promoted to Captain. He was demobilized in December 1919 and was the Officer in charge of the Canadian War Memorials Exhibition. He died in March 1944 and is buried in Mount Royal Cemetery.
Custodial history
The albums were purchased by the Provincial Library in 1922 from Percy Godenrath via Sydney R. Fay of Vancouver. The albums may have been acquired by Percy Godenrath while he worked in the Canadian Record Office in London.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of copies of official Canadian photographs taken during World War I between 1916 and 1919. The photographs are in seven albums entitled B.C. War Records and stamped "Provincial Library". Each album contains numbered copy prints stamped "Copyright Canada 1919" with captions attached.
