Biographical history

Peter Warren Bell was the oldest son of John Bell, of the Hudson's Bay Company. P.W. Bell entered the employ of the Hudson's Bay Company, and in July, 1866, was put in charge of the Lake Superior District, with headquarters at Michipicoten. In September, 1866, P.W. Bell married Ellen S. Dupont, in Belleville, Ontario. He remained in charge there until 1886.

Bell retired from the service of the company on June 1, 1895. After his retirement, Bell and his family moved to Vancouver. On August 1, 1901, he was drowned in the sinking of the S.S. Islander off Juneau. Bell and his wife had five children living in 1901, three sons and two daughters.

The fonds consists of correspondence, a diary and newspaper clippings, created by Peter and Ellen Bell from 1863 to 1901.
