Scope and content
The series consists of photographs taken or acquired by G.S. Andrews between 1905 and 1994. The bulk of the series consists of slides. They are mostly colour but there are also some b&w and glass slides. These slides were each individually numbered and identified by Andrews and were arranged numerically between 1 and 8360 with occasional gaps. He created various lists to manage these slides, see original slide list files in series MS-2924. A copy of his slide index (accessioned as 82-064) has been added to this series and is in container 000343-0196.
In addition, there are seven photograph albums with accompanying material such as maps and lists that depict various survey expeditions undertaken by Andrews, as well as travel albums.
The series also contains over 900 loose prints and nearly 1800 negatives. The prints and negatives are arranged by date and most have been identified by Andrews either on the back of the print or in notations on the original envelopes holding the negatives.
The series also includes 58 oversize prints donated by Andrews in 1980. These prints are of various subjects and were taken or acquired by Andrews during his survey work.
