Scope and content

A studio portrait taken at a photographic studio attributed to Mrs. R. Maynards Photographic Gallery, part of a larger portfolio of individual and group studio portraits of Maynard clientele. The portrait (full-length) consists of two unidentified individuals (2 adults) standing around a table with a [box] on top. One adult is looking at a card and the other is holding a fan. It is a gelatin dry glass plate negative (6.5 x 8.5 inches). The studio flooring (geometrical pattern tiling, fur rug) and studio accessories including furniture (chair with book on top) and scenic backdrop (parlor scene by a window) are visible. This image depicts a wider view of the portrait studio. The edge of the scenic backdrop is visible revealing a view to the back of the room, as there are alternate studio backdrops both rolled up and displayed in the background and behind the backdrop in use. The wallpaper of the studio is also revealed. This negative has been manipulated (e.g. there are touch-ups on the faces of the sitters).
