Scope and content
Item consists of a photograph of two posts of the Grizzly Bear House in Masset, Haida Gwaii. The photograph shows the posts prior to their removal from Masset, and they are displayed with a Chilkat blanket, a painted hat, and two daggers that possibly belonged to Xa'na.
The photograph is attributed to Richard Maynard and is believed to have been taken in 1884 when Richard Maynard accompanied Newton H. Chittenden on his tour of Haida Gwaii (then Queen Charlotte Islands). Newcombe recorded in 1906 that these posts had been taken to Berlin.
