Administrative history

The Post Office Department of Canada provided postal services for Canadians until 1981. In 1981, the Post Office Department became a Crown Corporation called the Canada Post Corporation.

Custodial history

Scope and content

The series consists of microfilmed copies of post office inspectors’ reports created between 1875 and 1901 for communities across British Columbia. The files are largely composed of correspondence, although there are also maps, plans, and petitions found throughout. The reports often contain descriptions of communities. The series also contains correspondence addressed to the post office inspectors filmed from the inspectors' letterbooks.

The reports are numbered and are arranged in numerical and chronological order. The original register for these reports has not survived. During microfilming, some of the volumes were filmed out of order, which is reflected in the reel list.

The microfilms were provided by Library and Archives Canada and are copies of records originally described as RG-3, series 6.
